Fuel Pump for 87si Civic HB 1.5L EFI

So I changed my gas tank out because it was full of rust and now it appears that the fuel pump bit the dust. I would have to guess that the rust inside of the tank got into the fuel pump and messed it up. I can hear it running, but it doesn't pump. I decided to test the lines with a hand held vaccume pump at the filter. That works. I can get gas out of the tank. Unless I am confused about how this thing works the pump must be bad. Right?

So my question is. Should I spring for the more expensive OEM type fuel pump or will a universal pump work fine.
