you are one hell of a moron. Every day I'm constantly reminded of the effect smoking has on people's bodies, and the closer the person is to you, the more pissed off it makes you.

I couldn't give a shit if you think it's your "right", or your "own choice". Yeah, well it's my choice NOT to have to put up with the stink and poison of your weakness floating around in my air, but often I'm forced to. It's my right not to have to face a future of hurt and pain because a loved one is suffering from the effects of years worth sucking down pack after pack of their "right."

I don't care how good you think you are, or how attractive you think you might be, or how smart you fancy yourself -- if you're a slave to carcinogen-ridden leaves rolled up in some shitty paper you paid 4 bucks for to a company whom it cost mere cents to make, you're in a pretty sad way.

Enjoy your continued killing off of vital blood cells and tissues and organs and respiratory structures -- at least one person is getting their jollies off -- because the rest of us won't be finding much pleasure from helping you haul your oxygen tank out of the back seat, lending you money to pay mounting medical bills, and listening to you wheeze and cough as your body slowly starves to death from lack of oxygen. Meanwhile a bunch of despicable suits at R.J. Reynolds cash their paychecks made from blood money -- your blood.

when i used to smoke, i never smoked indoors, nor when i or anyone near me was eating. i never blew smoke at/towards people because i knew they wouldnt want/like that.

You guys have some sad excuses for the shit, that's for sure. Same old tripe: "blah blah blah, Smoking is a right. I'll do it because I can. etc. etc." Never a damn REAL reason. Well guess what? Your poor excuses are the reason countless children spend their whole young lives living in the house with parents who smoke. You ever been hanging around your friend's house when their parent's were scraping discoloration off the walls? It built up every couple of years -- because they SMOKED. And their kids were breathing that shit in at night while they slept.

And as far as second hand smoke only resulting in three deaths a year? Please. Let's see a source on that one.

Can my links be considered biased? Sure. But I'll consider the EPA, American Lung Association, and Cancer Society over opponents. Let's face it, one side stands to gain a lot more from a pro-smoking stance than the anti-smoking coalition.

So again I say -- stupidity. My grandmother lost most of her sisters to smoking (I remember many of them from when I was little, and they were always smoking cigarettes.) I never remember my sister coughing the way she does now (and she's only 21, but she's been smoking for about 5 years -- strangely enough her cough and that of my roommate sound oddly similar, and he's been smoking for 6 or 7 years.) I smell it lingering on our phone. I smell it lingering on my roommate's clothes and breath, I smell it when I hug my sister, I smell it when I venture near the breakroom at work, I have to walk through it when I'm exiting or entering just about any major public building, I smell it coming through my window at night from the floors below. I know, I know, there's few things a smoker hates more than being preached at. Well you know what? I don't give a shit. You can't stand my bitching. I can't stand your filthy habit.

Behind every person who died of emphysema, or lung cancer, or esophageal cancer, or heart disease, or pneumonia because of cigarettes, there's probably at least one person left behind that suffers because of it. And you know what? Suddenly your right to smoke butts has gone beyond your own personal world -- now it violates that of others.

why complain it will never end there will always be smokers. I myself have smoked 8yrs of my life and i know im in good health. i can run a mile in 7.13 min and i smoke a pack a day i also work out every day too. Look some ppl like me dont smoke around non smokers but some do just quit complaining and move away from them.

The only issue any of you should be concerned about with second-hand smoke is children. Parents who smoke around their kids, the kids have no choice. If you're an adult and someone is smoking near you, you have a choice to get away from it (or get a law passed to move it from you). Live and let live (or let die).

People worry about the dumbest things when there's such bigger issues, but because the media doesn't tell you to worry about it, you don't. Media controls everything, we're all tools in one way or another.

Why not try to stop the 1 person that kills themeselves every 30 seconds each year?

With everything we know about the effects of smoking today I have to agree that anyone who still chooses to smoke is a moron. Most smokers say they wish they could quit, so it's not just nonsmokers who think smoking sucks.

Although it is a big one, second hand smoke is not the only issue here. Because smokers get sick (terminally and otherwise) more often than nonsmokers, they increase health care costs for all of us. So while it may be your right to harm yourself, you don't have the right to force the rest of us to pay higher health care costs to cover for your extra illnesses.

To any smoker who thinks they're in perfect health I say ask your life insurance company why your rates are higher than nonsmokers.
