The front hood of my 93 camry doesn't want to stay up when I am working under it. Is the part that keeps it up easy to get; is it easy to install? Any idea how much it may cost?
Thank you. |

Re: 93 front hood won't stay up
http://www.drivewire.com/toyotaparts...handstrut.html
Thats the pieces you're talking about, they average like $40 there. If you want to search for it to see if you can find it cheaper, look for 'Hood Struts' From the Toyota Repair Manual, the part name is "Hood Support"; P/N 53440-39055 $47.47 For the Right P/N 53450-A9010 $58.85 For the Left It looks like the difference is, the $40 one from drivewire seems to be just the pump piece, while the Toyota ones are the pump, and a bracket to attach it to the body. You probably don't have to replace the bracket. So by omitting the bracket, it shouldn't matter to get a "Left Pump" and a "Right Pump" The pump itself should be the same for both sides. It looks really easy to do, just a few bolts and clips, I've never done it myself. You'll probably need someone to hold up the hood while you replace them.

Re: 93 front hood won't stay up
Changed the hood struts on my daughters 94 about 2 years ago. Think I payed about $15 per strut at PepBoys. Seems like I had to attach the frame mount end backwards on the drivers side to get it to clear the structure. Other than that they've been workin great since. Took 1-2 hours. Cheers!

Auto Zone or Advance Auto are a lot cheaper on those pieces.

Re: 93 front hood won't stay up
hey. my hood wont stay up either. and im a broke teen, so i just keep a 2x4 in my trunk. i know its ghetto. but i have nothing to show off under my hood, or ever need to have it up, so a 2x4 works for me.

American ingenuity at it's best. I used a broomstick for a while.

Re: 93 front hood won't stay up
Many techs will just use a pair of vice-grips on the smaller diameter shaft of the hood strut where it goes in to the larger diameter shaft. It's smaller than a length of 2 X 4 and can be stored in your glove box.
