Exhaust Mods...HP Gain?

My friend has a 99 GTP...he removed the u-bend, cat and resonator.... he never had the chance to dyno it after but swears its getting about 50 more horsepower....the SES light came on but the car seems to run fine...is there any truth to this? will there be any damage to the car in the long run?

Re: Exhaust Mods...HP Gain?

Not even close to 50 hp, maybe 20-25 at best. Its getting an SES light because the post catalyst oxygen sensor was either removed (it's at the u-bend) or it can't monitor what isn't there.

Re: Exhaust Mods...HP Gain?

the car is in new york ....i told him it will fail inspection miserably....i suggested a free flow cat, u-bend delete, O2 simulator and leave the resonator out. Initial mods are cheap with a decent HP gain...such as ...smaller pulley., colder plugs, CAI and maybe re-program.....He thought he could get the inspection done at a shop to pass like this by using another car of some sort. I told him late models cars are inspected by OBD, and not like the older cars that need to run on to simulate driving conditions....P.S> he tried to get an exhaust shop to put a set of Flowmasters on and once they put the car on the lift they called him back and told him to come pick up his car right away and they wont do the job. They even charged him a $25 lift fee.

No e-check. Lucky. I'd wish they'd get rid of it here. The only pollution we have is coming from Mexico.

Drop a nice sized Buck and send me some venison FedEx.

When you check those SPID RPO codes just send me a PM. Thanks and happy hunting.
