I keep loosing coolant in my 2000 Malibu. It seems to be coming out of the resevoir and blowing on the engine. The gauge does not show that the car is running hot, however, I am constantly refilling the resevoir. I know that this has been addressed before, but can anybody help me. I don't want to pay a whole lot for repairs. I live in the Six Flags area in Atlanta. HELP!!!!!!!!

Re: Loosing Coolant
I'm guessing you have a V6 3.1, if so then this is a common problem with them.
How do you know it is coming out of the resevor? Do you see the fluid come out? If it is coming out the cap pressure relief vent just buy a new cap and it should stop. I've known 2 cars that had this problem. But 2000's with a V6 are known for intake gasket leaks, both internal and external leakage. Do you have coolant in the oil? When mine went it leaked out the end of the intake at the front head and ended up all over the engine. You might wash the motor down and let it run (parked) so you can see where it is coming from. You need to post more info for further help Good Luck |

Re: Loosing Coolant
As the other poster said, it's probably the intake manifold gasket. I had mine replace on my '01 at about 80K miles. Expect to pay around $600 in the Atlanta area. I live north of Alpharetta. Post some more details so we can help.

Re: Re: Loosing Coolant
That is what happened to mine - intake manifold gasket. It cost me about $450. The car has less than 60K miles on it - very disappointing.
