Aftermarket GPS

I'm looking into getting a GPS system for my old car and am trying to decide between the TomTom 300 and 700. What do people think of these, and would nayone have any suggestions/tips/hints?

Re: Aftermarket GPS

magellan's are sweet. that is what all of our field crews use. i'm a GIS analyst (sp?) for an electrical company. we've tried everything. as far as the GPS units in cars, magellan is the way to go.

Garmins work well also, but magellan beats them.

my dad got a Garmin for christmas 2003. not sure of the model, but it's a GPS and Palm Pilot all-in-one. comes with a cradle that you sit it in and plug into the car. it's worked really well for the year and a bit that we've had it now, but then i've never tried any other brands so i wouldn't know how it compares.

Re: Aftermarket GPS

Thanks for the ideas. I really like the way the TomTom screens look though. I'll look at some others, but these are the primary ones (GO 300 and 700) that interest me the most. Anyone used TomTom at all?

Re: Aftermarket GPS

Garmin's StreetPilot series... SUPER easy to navigate through menus, and very easy to read the maps. You have a lot of options, and the map color changes automatically in light/dark conditions. It can also work as a handheld in addition to using it in the car.

Re: Aftermarket GPS

So, I guess no one has used any of the TomTom stuff. Thanks for the replies everyone. I just think the TomTom GO 300 looks like it'll fit my needs the best.

Re: Aftermarket GPS

My Grandpa just got a TomTom, and though I haven't used any other GPS unit to compare it with, it was very easy to navigate through the menus, figure out, and it had some very nice features.

Re: Aftermarket GPS

Got 2 TomTom 300s. Use them all the time. They're absolutely perfect. Easy to use and very accurate. Pretty well priced here in the UK too.

Yeah, i'm definitely leaning towards the TomTom GO 300. It seems like it has all the features I need/want. Have you downloaded all the different voices on yours?

I've been using the TomTom 300, I think its great. The 700 has the obvious advantage of the Bluetooth phone option, which is great if you have a bluetooth phone, but I try to avoid using the phone when driving (too much of a distraction in traffic).
