Hello, I have a 96 lhs and I was curious if anyone else has a problem with the center console being loose, and what the fix is? I would also like to have the shift display to light up in the console.
Any ideas? Ivan |

There are two screws that hold the ceter cosole down to the air vent that runs to the back. The screws are located inside the cosole towards the front in the first compartment (Inside the stoarge part where you put your change and such). Just tighten those down and it shouldn't wobble around so much.
If you want your shifter to light up you're going to have to modify it yourself. You could take a dremel and cut the painted letters out, P R N D 3 L, then you'll have to mount like a sort of cloudy piece of clear plastic so the light does't shine too brightly through on the underside of the piece, mount a LED light or a small bulb underneath it. To power the light you'll need to find the wire that lights up like the tempature control box or the dimmer wire on your cd/radio player, split that wire off and use a volt meter to make sure that on the brightest setting it doesn't exceed 5v for a LED or whatever the specification is on the bulb you select. If it is too much you can buy a voltage regulator from radio shack to step down the power to where you need it, and with all of that you'll need a soldering iron. Sounds like a lot of work for just lighting up the letters... Hope that helps |

Re: 96 lhs console
What repairman said. The reason Chrysler decided to not light up the consold markings in the first place is because of the LED markings on the dash, pretty much all newer cars are going this route and placing the indicators on the dash (true some do both) you just have to get used to looking at the cluster when selecting gears, just like I had to do. When I bought mine, I too was used to looking down at the console because for years and years that was where the lighted markings were. Now it has become automatic for me to look at the cluster for the gear selection, it is actually safer to glance at the cluster and see where the selecter is at while the car is moving then looking down and to the right to look at the console to see.
