Cutting Clear Plastic?

I looked at the FAQ and did a small search on cutting clear plastic windows,I didnt find anything helpful. I want to cut the middle section out of the rear glass on my mk3 supra,The red line in the pics shows where i need to cut.

I was thinking scribe the line until it gets weak, same as a door or hood. I know clear plastic is very brittle and breaks easy, So how would i cut it out?

Re: Cutting Clear Plastic?

Are you looking to reuse the piece?

My advice is to go as you mentioned and then sand the edges to clean the up, buy anytime you're cutting a clear part it's a lottery as clear styrene behaves differently to the usual kit styrene.

Re: Cutting Clear Plastic?

not real sure what you are trying to do. are you trying to open the trunk up? and the clear for the windows is all one peice? if so, use something to support the inside of the glass so you dont crack it. then start scoring lightly. it will take some time, but it is very crucial that you go slowly and don't apply too much pressure as you will be sure to snap the windows

with my last '01 pennzoil conv. I succesfully used a PE saw mounted on the knife: it need to work slowly. I've test SRC and Verdlinden saws: SRC are too thin: safe for removed bonnet (just a sand)

Use a PE saw, I like the Hasegawa Tri Tool line. If you don't have access to that, lightly scribing your way through, like 97ex said, is the next best way... - Mark
