240SX turbo question

okay , so heres my Delima..

im relativaly new when it comes to working on engines with turbo's, and im going to do an SR20DET swap in my 240sx, the swap enough seems to be a big task, none the less modifying it. im not sure version of the engine i want to buy, whether its the more powerful S14 engine with a black top or a 202 hp red top.

how difficult is it to add another turbo to your set up? i was inspired by Sportcompactcarweb.com's project silvia, where they used the "potato" turbo which was relatively a bolt on swap. after exhaust intake tuning and an intercooler, they got it up to 274 rwhp.

stock dyno tests with a 202hp redtop got them 155, and 195 with the intake / exhaust. which im going to want more

how would adding a new turbo effect your engine without any changes, and what would be needed to ensure the safety and life of the engine after such a change.

thanks in advance
`jeremy

Re: 240SX turbo question

switching turbos isnt that hard as long as you do it before you put togather all the stock FMIC...becuase the hot pipe placement is alittle diff i believe (correct me if im wrong) but as far as a smaller turbo (300whp) might want to change your injectors to 555cc or so..then possibly just get a enthalpy tune to make sure its tune right...or get a stand alone unit...but since putting and SR in (is difficult) i would just let enthalpy do the work...

Re: 240SX turbo question

Run the stock turbo, it will be fast enough for a good while.

280whp is low for the disco potato turbo. many people have gotten that turbo up to around 350whp.

Re: 240SX turbo question

hehe... im still im posts up here! funny lol

i ran a 12.0 @ 118 with a 1.97 60' on regular street tires and v-lsd. that was with roughly 340whp. it dynoed 370whp right when i put it on before but the valve guides were SHOT when i pulled the head off at the end to get it remachined. last time i dynoed it didn't even hit 300whp.

disco won't get you past 320whp. MAX. if that's all that you are looking for, great... but you're probably better off with something like an s15 turbo, it should spool quite a bit quicker.

right now i have a full race topmount manifold, 72# injectors and t3t4e .57 (.60, .63 4 bolt discharge) and it dynoed 438whp at 22psi. it ran a 11.9 @ 126mph at norwalk with a 2.16 60'. looking for mid to very low 11's with a sub 2.0 launch.

That turbocharger should be well capable of 350whp.
