Question broken release cable

So my son in law decides to open his hood on his 88 the other day and pulled the entire cable out of it's covering, great huh? My question is now how do we open the hood so we can put on a new cable

Re: broken release cable

You will have to use a screwdriver to "push" on the release spring. There is a piece of thick "wire" that is inside the hood latch mechanism. You can see it looking between the hood and grill. you will have to push this "wire" with a screwdriver.

Edit: Here is a picture of what I explained above. Press the screwdriver against the release and push.
