Door stuck closed & locked.
The front passenger side door of my 96 XJ is stuck closed and locked and I cannot get it open. The power lock started to fade several months ago but I just started locking & unlocking it manually. That got more and more difficult until it just couldn't be done anymore; from the inside or using the key from the outside. This is a classic lesson in preventative maintenance, I know, but lesson learned and now I have to fix it. The lock won't even budge and I can't open the door.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. |

I had the same thing happen to my 96 last year. vamc is correct, when you get it open, pull the door panel and clean and lube the lock mech inside the door.
Now, getting it open is the trick. Open up your drivers door, on the rear of the door (the part that is inside the door jamb) there is a hole (slot) that is about 1" long and 1/2" wide. Shine a light in that slot, you will is the lock mech inside the door. Theres a little tab on the mech. If you take something and stick it in the slot, press that tab, the door will unlock. The pass door has the same slot in it as the drivers door does. Now go find something thin, long and flat that you can bend into a shape to stick in the gap between the pass door and the jamb (I used a bent butter knife) and into that slot to push the tab. |

Re: Door stuck closed & locked.
Thanks vamc & Ray H for the tips. I'm going to get into it this weekend and see what I can do. Hopefully it will work.
Thanks again, I appreciate the help. |
