Question 99 Ranger brakes

Does anyone know the brake bleeding proceedure with the ABS brake system? Brake system was completly re-done front and rear and the system was bled with new fluid. On occasion during a slow stop it feels like the ABS sytem is being activated and the pedal pushes back. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you have a wheel speed sensor that is not reading correctly. You can pull the wheels and rotors again and see if the front sensors are clean. Rust buildup or metal pieces will screw with the readings. It needs to have an ABS capable scanner installed to pinpoint which sensor is causing the problem.

Thanks for the reply. That makes sense being a speed sensor as it happens when coming to a stop. I will check it out and get back.

Re: 99 Ranger brakes

you might need to have the truck running when you bleed due to the ABS valves being electric. most new cars are like this.proper bleeding is back to front in a criss cross pattern.(back right, front left, back left, then front right)

Re: 99 Ranger brakes

Well I pulled the rotors and tried to remove the wheel sensor. The sensor would not come out.I removed the screw that held it the housing and tried to remove it . It broke and came out in pieces. I have looked on several auto part sites and can't find the wheel sensors listed. Are they an after market item? I'm going to pull the fuse for the ABS system as I need the truck. Can anyone share their experience with these sensors?

Re: 99 Ranger brakes

We just use OEM sensors. Haven't looked for any aftermarket.
