civic lx exhaust manifold
Ok, I'm a new guy to this forum. I am looking for some info. I have a 96 lx with a 1.6 in it, I was replacing a blown head gasket and discovered the exhaust manifold cracked. I have tried welding the crak but it just isn't working. For some reason Honda made this manifold and cat converter an all-in-one unit, and they are really expensive. i'm thinking about putting a header and here is my question. This engine has 2 O2 sensors and some of the headers I've seen is only set up for one. How do you get around not putting the second sensor in without always getting a fault code? Any recommendations on brands of headers and how to make this work?

Re: civic lx exhaust manifold
search honda-tech.com classifieds if your just looking for a used but working oem replacement. as for the oem manifolds, they crack easily, but, easily found used and cheap.

Re: Re: civic lx exhaust manifold
Thanks for the info, I'll check it out. I still haven't decided if I'm staying with the oem manifold or not.

Re: civic lx exhaust manifold
most headers i think for civics dont put the secondary o2 in the header.....they put the primary at the end of the header...and they expect you to put the secondary in after u get a cat bolted to the end of the header.....

Re: civic lx exhaust manifold
I have a 97 Civic DX and my problem was where the exhaust rusted from where the catalytic coverter meets the manifold. I was on the highway when it fell and I was dragging it for about 25 miles!!!! So I replaced everything from the manifold to the muffler. I got a DC sports 4-2-1 header with a Random Technologies Hi Flow Cat, which I had to extend the wiring for the primary O2 sensor. The other O2 sensor was fine. Then I got the Apexi Exhaust World Sport Cat back Exhaust. I got all these exhaust parts for the EX version.
Since the cat converter on a DX and LX is built INTO the stock exhaust header manifold, you'll also need to get the O2 sensor from an EX Civic or extend it since the one from a DX and LX Civic isn't nearly long enough as to avoid the check engine light from coming on, and your ECU putting the car in "limp home" bad performance mode. The result? I just passed going through the car inspection with not an engine going off!!! I notice the power increase too! |

I went to the honda dealer here and talked to them about the cracked manifold....they replaced it with a brand new manifold, they also replaced the spark plugs, plug wires, distributer cap and rotor button, and changed the oil and filter. All this under the emissions warranty....didn't cost me a dime.
Your setup sounds pretty cool. Thanks, I will look into that setup you have to replace this stock manifold and cat converter and just keep it as a spare. viperone |
