Exclamation Help! Need ideas to get into my trunk

Alright, so I have a challange here. Last week, some *!$%@#$*!#ing *!$^@$ broke into my 93 Del Sol Si. They stole my deck, and the 2-12's I had in a box behind the seat. Then they relized that the amp was stashed in the trunk. So, they took a screwdriver (or something of that sort), and tried to force the lock on the trunk. Well, our good freinds at Honda has made this very difficult to do. So much so, that the bastards gave up and took a crow bar, and tried to force the trunk open. Again, our good freinds at Hoda made this also impossible. Eventually, the little *$&%ers gave up and left. The next morning I tried myself to force the lock with a screwdriver (cop thought it might work if I used pliers), well the cylinder broke in half and fell out. The rest of the lock (the back end), fell down inside the body. And I now have a big black hole where the lock used to be. I managed to pry the trunk up enough to see inside, and yes, my amp is still there. But, I have no way to open it up and get it out.

Being broke as I am, I simply can't afford to take it to a shop and have them tear the body apart to open it up. I seem to remember from way back in the day that their is absoulty no way to get past the firewall between the cabin and the trunk. So, does anybody have any ideas on how to get into my trunk?

Could somone mabey post a pic of their trunk catch and surrounding areas for me? I'm thinking mabey if I could see a few pictures of what all is in there, mabey I can work a coat hanger back there to release the catch on the trunk....

Any help is very greatly appreciated!!!

Re: Help! Need ideas to get into my trunk

break through the passenger tail light reach in and pull a metal rod on the immidiate left on the trunk (by the keyhole) wall that should release the latch and open the trunk. You will need to replace the light but they are cheap on Ebay or someone might feel sorry enough for you and donate one. Good luck.

Look in the hole with a flashlite, if you see a slot in there, use a flathead screwdriver in the slot like a key....

Re: Help! Need ideas to get into my trunk

on my old car the trunk lock fell out, I would just stick my finger in and pop the latch through the hole. Much like busting out the tail lite.

Re: Help! Need ideas to get into my trunk

Got It!!!! Really just posting this incase anyone happens to have the same problem I did, and checks this forum for answers. I actually had a brilliant idea today, and used a coat hanger to pop the lock. What you have to do is take the end of the coat hanger (un winded so its long and not shaped like a coat hanger), and bend it up to make a little "fish hook". Then angle it a little, to get it in the hole where your lock used to be, and push it down to the bottom. Then bring it back up, it should catch a metal bar which is attached to the back end of the lock. Use a pair of needle nose pliars, grab that bar and push it to the left till the trunk pops. I'll put some pics of my 'tool' up someday if I get my digital camera working again. Anyways, thanks for the ideas again guys.

Unhappy Re: Help! Need ideas to get into my trunk

wow what a bummer.

hope you find the guy bumping your stuff one day and castrate the bugger. kind of a depressing story... reminds me of when i got my sub and amp jacked out of my prelude... funny part tho was the head unit was the easiest thing to jack (simply grab and pull cause it wasnt secured) and they left it so im still using it to this day.

if theres any junk yards in your area, check them out to see if they have any del sols and see if you cant buy a new lock of them for cheapie cheap. reinstalling it might be a pain in the buns tho.
