Unhappy bad ball joints pics. heh

well my bird is clunking, squeekin, and squeelin everytime i turn the wheel and go over bumps. Well decided to take pics of the damages finally and post them. I'll be replacing all of the ball joints with moog parts and sway bar links as well. then eventually do the suspension!

BLEH!

By the looks of them, do it quick or don't drive the car!

Re: bad ball joints pics. heh

can't really do them asap. but i will do them as soon as i can get to them. Its my only means of transportation because 1 car is down for a major build up.
I will need a ball joint seperator for sure for the bottom and tops right? Also for the sway bar links should just pop out as soon as they are loosened right? Any pointers? And whats the best way to go about this???
Thanks

Re: bad ball joints pics. heh

Spray everything with PB Blaster, WD40, or the like the day before. Never replaced the lower bj so can't advise there. The swar bar links are easy if you can keep the ball from spinning inside the link as you try to take the nuts off. Once the nuts are off, a baby sledge (3lb. hammer) should do the trick or even a pickle fork. As far as the upper a-arms, jack up and support the front of the car, remove the tire, remove the through bolt, and use the same hammer or pickle fork.

Just replace the entire lower & upper control arm assemblies.
You will want an 18mm racheting wrench.

Check with your local parts supplier or you can order
the entire lower & upper control arm and ball joint assembly from Rock Auto.

Here is a 5% discount code for Rock Auto
that is good until December 6, 2005

Re: bad ball joints pics. heh

finally got them both changed out. wasnt too bad. just used vise grips to hold the bars also If you clunking over bumps this is also a very possible fix. Mine clunked all the time. It still squeekes but i'll get to that. heres a pick. Moog Vs stocker.

Re: bad ball joints pics. heh

BTW I still gotta do upper and lower ball joint but i did already plan on the above suggested and do the who assembly's. But for the bottom i will have to compress the coil springs for the struts so I'll just gather upper and lower assembly's over time along with some new struts. Do it all at once.

Re: bad ball joints pics. heh

If your ball joints, upper or lower, give out, hold on for the ride of your life if your doing highway speeds.
