Couple of repair questions -advice needed

Morning All !

92 Euro, 3.1. (son's vehicle)

1. He said that the HVAC system will not blow from the dash vents but all other functions work. Where should my start and end point be in repairing, etc ?

2. One of the two lamps (are there two lamps or just bleed over from another in the dash) for illuminating the fuel gauge has burned out. What is the easiest way to replace ?

I'm handy with tools and a boneyard is close by. I always get parts there and practice there before actual repairs on vehicle. (Speedway autoparts in Madison Il.. know where that is Jeff? )

Oh yeah, I know Speedway salvage. Used to run the SS on test and tune nights across the road at the track when I could.

I've never had to replace a lamp in the gauges in a car in probably twenty years, so I'm not sure. But I know I've seen a few posts here on how to, so somebody'll know.

Might look for a vacuum leak under the dash or hood and see that your vac resevoir isn't leaking. That will keep it from switching modes.

Jeff is right about the vacuum. That seems to be a common issue on these. Your Vacuum check tee may have given out. On the drivers side of the car, between the battery and the cruise control module, you should find a cluster of vacuum hoses, connected to a three way tee. From that tee, one line goes to the HVAC, one goes to the vacuum ball under the fender, and one goes to your intake (there should also be a smaller tee (IIRC) for your cruise control servo).

As for the gauge lights, you will have to remove the upper dash pad, and remove the cluster from the car; the lights just twist in and out; our gauges use both 194's and 161's.

Thanks Guys !!! You saved me some time and cash. Got a T and hoses from the bone yard on Sunday. The T had broken and three lines had no vacuum, as well as a broken line going to the cannister. I assumed there would be some splicing so some washer fluid hose was snached while I was wondering around. It was great fun removing enough equipment to get a half ass grip on everything. I've had less pain removing a set of heads ! Anyway, vent and cruise works great. The dash light will be a friday job, I got the 194's as the parts guy said they are a little brighter than 161's (?). Thanks much, successful cheap repairs made on my own !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I owe you on this one !

Washer tubing will collapse under vacuum, don't use it as such. You'll be back toi square one, wondering why it still won't work...

Yeah you're right and I took that into consideration. When I said "splicing" I should have explained the hose tubing was rather used as cinnecting one broken line to the other end. I tried to make sure each broken end was touching the other within the hose line, really limiting the amount of "free hose" as much as possible. So far so good, if not.... what's another day of cussing and bleeding kunckles, it's free entertainment for the family .
