conventional Vs. Synthetic oils
ok, I have heard that becuase the rotary motor consumes oil naturally that you shouldn't use synthetic due to the way that it burns
is this true? jsut wondering about this stuff before I actually go to buy the RX-7 i'm looking at |

There is some discussion on weather or not to use synthetic motor oil or not. Apparently, the reason that Mazda recommended not to use Synthetic oil was that at the time, those types of oil didn't burn completely. In the rotary engine, that is a bad thing, since oil is injected into the rotor housings for lubrication, and is in turn burned in the combustion process. Current technology has allowed the oils made today to burn more completely than they used to, so it is really up to the user to pick their oil of choice.

Its fine to run synthetic oil in rotaries. Mazda recommended against it in the past but that was because their race team had a problem with a specific brand. Rather than say that you should not use the specific brand they issued a general statement saying that you should not use any synthetic oils in rx7s.

Re: conventional Vs. Synthetic oils
the guys at atkins, mazdatrix and mazdasport would disagree. good ole 10w40 has been proven best for turbo - N/A cars.

Re: conventional Vs. Synthetic oils
787B, won le mans with synthetics years ago.
All of the factory mazda race cars run synthetics. All my race cars run synthetics. All of my customer cars run synthetics. Years ago when they first came out there were issues of sludging and carbon buiild up because of improper burning. But that has been adressed in almost all top of the line oils. If you are to run syn then i suggest one of 3 brands. Royal Purple Motul (what i use) RedLine
