Hard Starting
2000 Cherokee 4.0. It does not like to start when cold. The engine cranks for over 30 seconds to start. Once started it runs perfect. I am thinking it looses fuel pressure. Without doing all the pressure checks is is safe to assume that the fuel pump check valve is loosing pressure? The check valve and pressure regulator and fuel filter are all in the tank. It probably needs a fuel filter anyway at 90k, but the pump assembly is real expensive to find out it is an injector. It started doing this after running low on fuel (my wife said she drove it into the gas station sputtering after driving over 30 miles with the light on). Anyone had experience with this?

Re: Hard Starting
Low on fuel is definitly bad for fuel pumps though it ususally takes more than once to do it in.
Doing a proper diagnosis costs money but I'll bet a fuel pump that you don't need will cost you more......... JD
