I have a choice between a 350 or a 327 and i plan on building one of them up and putting it into my 86 trans am the problem is i dont know which one would be the fastest... i've heard people say that the 350 would cuz of more horsepower, but i also heard the 327 would cuz of the horse/torque ratio, and the 327 would have more upgrades.... which one would make me have a faster car? ( i want to race it short and long distance)

Personally I'd go with the 350 simply because I've worked on them and built a few so I have a clue as to what I would do to it. As for the 327, isn't that just a stroked 305? If so, definately go with the 350 as there will be more mods you can do to it.

Re: Chevy 327 or 350
thanx i think i might go with the 327 and get every upgrade i can find. i have a friend at school with a 68 camaro and he did that to a 327 with all the upgrades and he runs 9.9's and he doesnt use nos or superchage the engine or nething. i dont know much about the superchanging, turbos or nos but he doesnt have ne of that but i might do sum of it just to make it faster

Well if you plan to do the exact same mods that your friend did with the 327 to run almost the same time he did then go ahead and get the 327, because if he IS your friend then he would be probably glad to help you out in making your car fast like his. If you dont think you will do what he did or want to follow a different path, then get a 350, they're great and ofcourse have alot of aftermarket parts because it's been around for a good while now.

Re: Chevy 327 or 350
Virtually everything that fits 350 fits 327, except rotating parts. Chevy went to 350 for reasons. It makes more low-end power, and is still quite capable of revving.
In "racing" trim, it's a toss-up. 350 will usually make a tad more power, but 327 can rev to the moon without a wimper. For a street car, consider a 383 ("stroked" 350). They make near big block torque, and still rev decently. Your injectors and throttle body will need upgrades. Jim |
