Re: tranny whine 96 ram 1500
its more than likely the torque converter is going out. does the sound change as you go through the gears or does it just stay the same? also what does the fuild look like (red black dark) make sure its full you have to check it in neutral. And one more thing make sure its not a alternator wine or anything else before you condem the trans

You can hear the tranny whining differently through the gears like it gets louder as the rpm go up. and at some speeds it goes away some speeds it gets louder...its really loud at 50 but less at 60. thanks for the help...if its the tourque converter does that mean the tranny is shot?

Re: tranny whine 96 ram 1500
It could also be the front pump.... The front pump usually fails when the Torque Converter starts coming apart and sending metal shaving through the pump. You may want to drop the pan and check for metal shavings in the fluid. If you do have, you will need a total rebuild to fix it.
