How many people here actually pull wrenches on cars?

How many people here actually pull wrenches on cars? I was wondering, because I just lowered another mustang today, about the 18th one I lowered this year. I was also looking at my growing pile of stock GT/V6 rotors, time for me to clean out the storage shed full of stock parts...

So how many people here pull there own wrenches? If you don't do you have a friend that does it or do you take it to a dealer or a speed shop?

Re: How many people here actually pull wrenches on cars?

all the work done on my car except for the teardown and reassembly of my rear end, plus the fabrication of my exhaust, is 100% me. i plan to keep it that way as much as possible, no matter how frustrated or dirty i get (usually more dirty, lol)

With the exception of gears and the custom tune for the blower every other mod I've done myself.

Yea.

I do all my own work. I got $35,000 worth of tools in the garage.

I figure why let somebody else screw it up when I'm perfectly capable of doing it myself. I've got a few OLD FART tricks up my sleeve too.
I'll try and get some pics of the last motor I built in the gallery soon.

Re: How many people here actually pull wrenches on cars?

I do all the work on my cars, family and friends cars. Last night I replaced the front left U-joint from my pals 93 cherokee and today I helped my grandpa with the head to his 98 cavalier.

I'm posting a ground up build of a '49 Ford being done by me and a friend of mine in the fabrication forum. It is being revived with a mustang 2 subframe and a flathead to efi 5.0 conversion. I also have a basement shop full of vintage carburators, exhaust and intake manifolds, a set of power-pak heads, and many many other parts lying around. I also just came back in from my shed where I tore down an all original '67 Mustang 289. The motor was supposed to be good, but 2 thrown rods(1 through the head, and the other in the water jacket) and a whole piston in the oil pan can't be a good thing, can it? Looks like a third trip to the junkyard to drop off another junk motor(the first two weren't blown, they were Chevys!) I forgot to mention the '64 Thunderbolt Fairlane that we just finished too. I have had the bug for about 3 years now and I am only 16. I think I'm obsessed. I guess you could say I turn my own wrenches.

I do all my own work and 75 percent of all my buddies' work for them too...

With the exception of machine work and rear gear swaps, and any paint/bodywork.

i've done all the work on my mustang. including the head work. the only thing i didn't do was having the block notch and bored out for the stroker kit. wasn't to bad really. only cost me 300 bucks.

i'm so used to it that when i got my first car i did all my work my self that when i started working at valvoline and i had to quote somebody $50 on a tune up for a 4 cyl for just the plugs i about craped myself be cuase i was used to paying $50 for spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor.

Re: How many people here actually pull wrenches on cars?

The little work my car has, has been done by me, just CAI, throttle body spacer and Shifter. thats regarding the perfomance. body work was done by a shop, i put the foglamps in, and the "hyper white" bulbs haha this weekend im puttin the exhaust on. (gears will have to be done by a pro too) which sux because with the money for gear installation i could be byin myself a set of pulleys, plugs, and a little extra gas
