84 cutlass slow crank
ok where do i start i have a 84 cutlass that has a 5.0 307 in it the motor is out of a delta 88 the same year the problem with the car is the ignition system the car was turned into a race car and we built a roll cage for it well the roll cage is welded to the frame so we grounded the battery to the roll cage but we took out the stock ignition system and switched over to a ford soleniod style system where the pos bat goes in and the other side runs to ur starter it seems to work fine on all of the other cars and the derby car but on my car it cranks really really slow all the grounds are tight and clean the battery is brand new and the battery is mounted behind me where the back seat would be idk if that matters but that means the battery cables are longer but here is the question or problem the car cranks really really slow like i said everything is tight and the bat is new so idk i just bought a new starter to see if that would help but it didnt idk what to do im running out of things to do is there n e thing you guys would think of that can work let me know also the motor was just rebuilt let me know thanks alot

First thing to do is do a starter draw test see how many amps the starter draws and what the volts drop to, also load test the battery, check voltage drop from the bat to the solenoid, and solenoid to starter, these are basic tests for this condition.

i did all these things keep in mind that the starter and battery are brand new not only are they brand new they have both been replaced 2 time to insure it wasnt the starter and battery i just talked to my last year auto teacher and he said that my battery cables are too small im running either a 2 or 4 gauge battery cable and i should be running a 0 or 00 gauge because of how long they are so i will go to the welding supply house and pick up some welding wire that can hold up to the current but thanks for your post of that dont work i will let you know thanks alot

You did all these things what were the results how many amps how many volts? You can double up you existing cable size using custom end clamps.

well i got the problem fixed thanks for your help the problem was the batt cables were way too small they were 4 gauge and they are 6 ft long so i swithced to a 2 gauge and perfect but thanks for ur help i will keep posting stuff up here it helps out alot thanks
