2004 Squeak/Creak - Driver's Sliding Door?
I hate rattles and squeaks! Has anyone had a problem with creaking/squeaking coming from behind the driver's left ear (related to driving their 2004!). My CE with manual sliding doors creaks constantly just behind my head. I've ridden in the 2nd row, and I think I've isolated the problem to the top/forward area of the leftside sliding door. Before I waste any time at the dealer listening to the "they all do that" speech, can you tell me the real fix? Thanks.

creaking side doors
I have the same problem on my liding doors on my 2001 Sienna. What I do is clean and lubricate the hinges even lightly grease the black plastic areas as that is where the dust buids up and causes that annoying errk errk sound. Hope this helps.

I also had (continue to have once in a while) this problem and finally found out it wasn't the door at all. It's the handle behind the driver's window. The screws that hold the handle on keep coming loose and when they start to loosen, they start to squeak. Once they are really loose, they tend to stop squeaking. I only found this out when I had to sit back there and grabbed the handle when getting out and found it was loose. We tightened it up and within a few weeks I heard the squeaking again and found out the handle was coming loose again. We have retightened the screws (very tight) this time and will see if they again wiggle loose. I was kinda bummed that these screws were coming loose when this vehicle is not even 2 years old and that anyone could grab that handle for support and not realize it may actually fall off. Potential hazard. Again, we'll see if the tightening holds this time - hope so.

Your Toyota dealer has a "fix" for this. Call and ask the service manager if he has the new "rough" metal door latch receivers in stock. You need one for each sliding door. My dealer had to order them but once they had them, they replaced the old ones while I waited. This is a warrantee repair including the parts unless you choose to install the parts yourself. In that case, they will charge you for the parts. If you have to wait for the dealer to order the parts, try tightening the receiver screws and then wrap the part which the latch contacts with "black tape". I made a 3500 mile trip with this temporary "fix" and mine did not make a sound. Before, my passenger door drove me nuts.
Does anyone have wind noice with their 2004 or 2005? It sounds like it comes from around the sides of the windshield or from the top on the front doors. It is particularly bad on the road if the wind is blowing, even slightly, and especially a head wind. |
