Please help,
I have a 1996 Chevy Silverado EXT Cab 4X4 1/2 Ton Pickup. Recently my truck randomly stopped starting. I have lights, and power..I can here the starter click when I turn the key over but it fails to start or turn over. I went and jiggled the battery cables to see if they were loose and the were not, but the truck started. This happens intermidently. Now my radio is completing blacking out...Then all of a sudden it starts working again? I initially thought it was a failing starter silinoid but with the radio problems now starting, I just don't know....Who can help? Greenbeast |

If, as you say, after jiggling the wires, even though they weren't loose, the truck started, it's possible that there is corrosion between the cable connector and battery terminal. Try taking them off and cleaning them.

Starter click and no start.....battery is going. I have had two GM trucks that when the radio started crapping out, the alternator is going bad. Check your output on the alternator. AutoZone will do is for free and check the battery at the same time. I bet they will both register as bad or substandard on specs. It would also not hurt to replace the wire from the alternator to the battery. I had to do this when I changed the one on my 97 k1500 when I did the alternator.
Hope this helps a bit. |

Re: MY 96 CK 1500 4X4 fails to start (sometimes)
sounds loke a crapy starter anyway or some gremline.
