Thinking about getting a mustang

I am thinking about buyinh like a 92 mustang with the 5.0 in it. Is this a good car to buy for tuning. Is there more aftermarket parts for early 90's mustangs or are there more parts for the mustangs with the 4.6 in them. I want a car that has a lot of parts for it so i can work on it.

it doesent really matter there r a shit load of aftermarket parts for 5.0's and 4.6's. but probaly a little more with the 5.0's

Both have large aftermarkets, and yes the 5.0 responds well to mods.

If you do a lot of work to that 5.0 you could have a nice car that will go fast. But don't be cheap with it. If you are going to build it build it right.

The 5.0 basically started the aftermarket mod business. Parts are cheap and easy to come by, as are the cars themselves. It's an excellent choice for a cheap, fun project car.

The 5.0 rivals the Smallblock Chevy for the amount of aftermarket parts available. The only advantage the SBC has always had as a buildable motor is the the ready availability of better flowing CHEAP heads. (I.E. 305 HO heads), where with a Ford you need a head swap to make over 300 RWHP typically.

The 5.0 is a great car to start with, though, very easy to work on compared to a 4.6.

I may be new but i do my homework. first off gor performance and a good price range get a fox(79-93) body mustang there lighter than going to the sn95(94-04) years. that and the 5.0 is for a cost efective stand point the easier and cheaper mods platform. the 78 to 93 also the beter choise on those you'll get the best posible engine for mods.
Most chevy guys take advantage of there local salvage yard and beleiver me you can find good parts for good prices. if you want to say EFI you'll want to buy a pare of GT-40P heads, you can get them on 96-up 5.0 Explorer, i know peole say the P heads are junk but they flow 196 cfm at .500 lift. and will actualy out flow the 5.0 cobra engien up to .500 lift and after that there is only a small diference. allong the Cobra engine note the intake on the Explorer Upper/Lower are very simular to the cobra, even the throtle body. They are all major upgrades from the stock 5.0 engies. the GT-40P heads can be found for $300 but it is well forth it when the stock E7TE heads flow a week 158 cfm at .600 lift.

IMPORTANT: the GT-40P will require you to buy a special set of headers to use them on your mustang a set of high flow shortys for $240 not the best or the worst but look at cost saved int your new/used heads

Going to the carb side get the same GT-40P heads and for your upper all you need is a 650cfm or a 750cfm Holly Double Pumper carb. and don't bother with the edelbrock there good i have a performer intake about $145 i think and the performer RPM is around 200 again off the top of my head. The Weiand Stealth intake ($166) is put up in the class of the PRM and RPM Air Gap a $245 head, my oppinion the best choise and has been proven best bank for the buck.
Cam my cam is a Saturday Night Special, it is a $260 set of cam, retainer, lifter, and springs good for 7,000 rpm. and the lift and degree of lift is B-U-T-Full. ya some people will tell you idle is going to be to ratical for street but thats not true it is noticably diferent but not a pain in the neck.

Never forget the exhaust that you can go cheap or not. Cheak Jegs and Summit for these parts you can get a catologe free on the web or write them, there usefull. another thing in the exhaust is going long tube or short tube headers. long tube will give you more power but not a large amount, and with the gt-40p heads you can only find them in short headers. But there is also a huge cost save in shorty headers.

Another speed gain is about gearing 3.55, 3.73, or 4.11 chose on your driving uses. underdrive pullys are alway good cheap power. and the other basics you hear people tell you, there all good advise. all i'm giving you is advice and my opinion and what i would do. The best i can give you is two, go yahoo and cheak out all word combinations of 5.0, mods, performance, cheap, info, history, mustang, I think you get my drift, I also have what i call THE BOOK a small book of information i've taken from the web for personal use allot of dyno runs, bolt ons, articals all condenced.

The fox body 5.0 is probably the most fun car you will ever own. I say this having owned Camaros, Corvettes,Supras etc. I'm 27 and am on vehicle #45, only because my dad owned a used car lot,he and I traded back and forth. As far as an all around package this is a good bang for the buck car. The aftermarket has also embraced this car so well that you can set it up any way you like. Out of my 45 vehicles my '90 Mustang GT was by far my favorite.

ive had alot of vehicles also never had a mustang before until about a week ago. I just got a 2003 v-6 convertable and i love this car-my second best car previous was a talon loved the way it handled but my stang blows it away(if i had the GT i would be dead LOL) As for aftermarket there are tonns of stuff if u have the cash. I will be looking soon enough also.

As everyone said...GO 5.0!! Tons of aftermarket, 5.0 responds strong to upgrades, and a whole hell of alot easier to work on than the 4.6!!! The 4.6 is good but nothing like the 5.0! Parts are cheaper for the 5.0 also. To rebuild a stock 4.6 you're looking at around $4000 installed. For a 5.0 it's around $2000-$2500 installed. My Grandpa's 98 F150 4.6 needs rebuilt (his fault not the trucks) and that is what he's been told about the price. The 89-92 5.0's I think are the best because they are lighter, 89 first year for mass air, 92 last year for forged pistons (93 they had hyperuetic pistons) forged are better for nitrous and supercharging. I do have to admit that the 94 and up cars have better brakes and suspension, so if you like the newer style but want a 5.0 go with the 94-95 cars. GOOD LUCK!! GO 5.0!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would say go with whatever you can afford. I used to have a 95 gt. That thing was a 5.0 and a great car. Then I moved up to the 03 cobra. For about a grand into one of the 03 cobra you can jump 100hp over stock. I've never seen a car take to mods like this one does.
