being a car person

every one has a preference in auto maker. ussually we hear this most between the 3 american heavy weights ford, chevy, and dodge. where did this start? another section is import v domestic. now that i care about, im into domestic cars. just something about the mustang, camaro, and charger that screams muscle. but i also like import, i like dsm's, nissan, bmw, just to name a few. but there are people out there that are really into this. why?

Re: being a car person

Why are people so hardcore about sports teams?

Same principle. If you were raised and taught to love a certain thing, you will. Thats the case for most ignorant car lovers. Once they're taught to love a certain car all others are obsolete. Other true car lovers realize every kind of car (domestic, import, euro) have their own strengths and weaknesses but may still have their own favorite.

For example, I love imports. But specifically the actual Japanese Sports cars. Then after that I like Euros cuz of the styling most of the tuned ones show. Lastly domestics. Except for a few exceptions it seems like all they're good at is going fast and straight. Just my opinion though.

I grew up in a country where you didn't have your American 'domestic' vehicles around, so I like what I grew up around, you're going to hold that against me?

I like all cars, domestic or import. But they all have their strengths and their weaknesses. If someone is discriminating any type of car, or the place of the cars origin, well, thats due to their own reasons i guess.

Re: being a car person

I really have no preferance to Domestics or Imports. I like cars, trucks, suvs, and vans of all kinds. No brand preferance here either and I can't really hate a car (or brand) till I know about it. I have respect for all cars if its nice so no respect for a junker. My favorite car will be whatever it is I'm driving (unless its some pos and I don't drive pos.)

Re: being a car person

I was never raised to really like one brand more than any other. My parents just happen, by the time I was born, to have turned into GM only people. They had everything else and always got lemons. I was a big Chevy kid growing up. But been in bed with Ferrari's since I saw a neighbor drive by in a Testarossa when I was 3. Been addicted to exotics and european cars since.

Next car....BMW.

For instance, I love the Hyundai Coupe/Tiburon, yet hate the Ferrari Superamerica POS. There are brands, however, that have consistently produced individual models I love, and brands that have made very few or no models I like, yet I'm always willing to accept a product of theirs. Hell, even BMW has managed 2 or 3 good ones!

Bottom line: If you prejudiciously discriminate against any brand, or any country, you're only depriving yourself. Be open.

Re: being a car person

im my family we've had so many different cars, with a wide spread of different brands. so we dont say "well we've had a bmw before so we'll only have one next" it's what car is best suited to what we want from the car. we're all willing to give other brands a chance.

i think there's a big prejudice towards diesel cars still. i'm in favour of diesel, i know lots of people wouldn't even consider a diesel.

VW, Mazda, Toyota, Nissan

Nothing like US's 'big 3', thankfully.
