stuck in 4 wheel drive
I have inspected the vacuum actuator, the hose, all fuses, checked the fluid levels. It is a 97 blazer 4x4
When I disengage 4 wheel high , by pushing the 2 hi button, it blinks a few times and goes right back to 4 hi. I can hear some clicking and so forth under the truck, but nothing seems to come of it. I just bought this truck, was driving along, switched from 2 hi to 4 hi at about 20 mph, when i went to shift back into 2 hi it wouldnt go. I dont know whether or not to tell my boss, he sold me a pos, or if there is some kind of easy fix for this. Should I replace the actuator anyway? Start swapping out switches on the transfer case? I dont know what to do. I have already searched this out completely on this site and others, and have tried everything besides swapping parts. Without swapping out parts, none of what I have tried, helped. Please Help! |

Re: stuck in 4 wheel drive
Have you tried backing up while attempting to switch back to 2wd? How about on a slick surface?
You cannot run these on regular asphault. It will bind the case - and this is your fault, not the fault of the truck. Try running on an unpaved country road or backing up and disengaging. This may unbind it. Josh <><

Re: stuck in 4 wheel drive
Hello,
If you're icing up yet I'd try some sheet ice. Otherwise yes, you do have something wrong with the transfer case. You might undo the front driveshaft and see if you can switch into 2wd. That will definetly tell you if something's internally wrong. Josh <><

Thanks Josh, I know nothing about transfer cases or anything about 4 wheel drive beside what I have learned reading the post here, so for me to do any of this would probably be out of my ability. Just figures, lol had the darn truck on the road for one day and already screwed up something. I wonder why it switches from 4 hi and low ok , seems if the transfer case had problems it wouldnt swtich at all, but i dont know jack about this. How frustrating. |
