I say just get on down to the dealer and buy a new one. They are probably around 10 bucks. You'll probably need it in the future too so its probably a good investment.

Re: wheel lock delima

yes im serious. and i dont think they came from the dealer to order a replacement. i went to a local tire shop where they had old used keys. i found a couple that fit but not exactly. would it be a bad idea to try and use one of them?

Go for it. If you get them off throw them away.

They do make a wheel lock removal tool. I think I saw a cheap set ($19.00) at either Advance auto parts, Autozone, or Sears.

A larger tire shop should have the tool.http://www.kentool.com/tireserv_WCLM.htm

Re: wheel lock delima

if i use a key that fits but not exactly, what are the odds of stripping the lock versus actually loosening it? or would i be better off using a different method. im trying to find the easiest or cleanest way to remove it.

Re: wheel lock delima

depending on the design, you may strip the lug or brake the tool. if it doesn't work, a air chisel should still work(if you know how to do it right)

Re: wheel lock delima

That sounds a lot better than using an air chisel. Personally I think that is the last resort. Spending a little bit of cash to maybe save an accident or damage that could be prevented is well worth it. But it's great that you got them off...
