Anyone tried Alclad II over clear?

I´m sorta planning a paintjob, the base will be tamiya gloss black (TS-14) followed by some graphics that will require a clearcoat. I´m planning to do some trim on the car in Alclad II chrome since it´s already black (bit lazy I know ). Soooo, I´ve heard that Alclad tends to loose it´s metal-like shine once clearcoated so I´m thinking of putting the Alclad over the clearcoat. Anyone tried this before?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, it worked for me.
Just make sure the parts you want to paint Alclad over are a uniform color under the clear. The Alclad is translucent.
You should also test the compatabilty of the clear with the Alclad beforehand. - Mark

Thanks for the quick reply, I´m going to use tamiya clear (TS-13), I think. I´ll test it first to make sure nothing unpleasant happens!

I always spray over clear. I put down a coat of Duplicolor Black and then clear it until its real shiny

Alclad II chrome must be sprayed over an enamel base. It will work over an acrylic/lacquer base like the tamiya sprays, but will rub off easily. Polished Aluminum works best with Tamiya sprays.

I've shot it over everything from enamel and lacquer to urethane. It can work. Experiment. Had good results over urethane... - Mark

Guess I´m just gonna have to resist the temptation of rubbing the trim then, bummer...

According to the instructions, Alclad II Chrome should be applied over enamel, not lacquer. I've found it has better adhesion over enamel and that alone is worth the wait for it to cure... - Mark
