94 5.0 or 92-96 prelude

hey im about to be 16 soon and i cant decide what car i want. my dad orginally bought me a 04 mustang gt but now i have the choice of keeping it or getting another car in my case a prelude.
for a while ive been all about the prelude but then today i was ridin with my dad n these two cars ( a 350z twin-trubo & bmw m3) flew by us. of course my dad took off and this fuckin mustang went 145 mph stock! and was still goin! im pretty sure the other cars were just playin around though. neway i was really impressed today. also my auto tech teacher told me about the stuff u can do to the mustang. such as a t3 twin turbo setup. neway what would be the better car? money is no problem BTW

Re: 94 5.0 or 92-96 prelude

Before buying ANYTING, I would suggest a trip to your local track to see what's REALLY going on.
First, neither the Mustang nor the Prelude are "muscle cars", and therefore not in the right thread. There are some that will argue (a stretch) that the BIG-engined Mustangs (from '70-back) are muscle cars. Not really, but they're certainly "muscular". No Honda, on any day on any planet, is a "muscle car". Forget what you saw in the movie. An Acura will NOT run with a Hemi Charger... (unless you disconnect three plug wires from the Dodge, AND put a 400 "hit" of nitrous on the Honda...)
As I say, go to the track. Keep track of how quick/fast certain stockish cars are going. If overall performance is your goal, this will give you some "real world" experience to draw on. You won't get it from ANY website anywhere...
You'll be surprised at what you see and what times cars REALLY run (not in magazines or on benches).

Re: 94 5.0 or 92-96 prelude

We've been over this before. A "muscle car" is an intermediate body with a large engine. A Mustang of any description, regardless of power, is a "pony car". A Ford "muscle car" would be a Fairlane GT or Torino Cobra, Cyclone GT, etc.

I really like the 325i because it just looks and feels nice. I don't really know what kind of mods that you can get to build HP on one though. But if you are looking for HP than I might go with the Mustang because people have been building them since back in the day. There are so many aftermarket parts and should be relatively easy to get parts for extra power.

Re: 94 5.0 or 92-96 prelude

We recently saw a t-shirt at a local drag strip. "Racing imports is just like the Special Olympics... Even if you win, you're still retarded..." You'll find this attitude prevelant among the Mustang, Firebird/Camaro and ALL the muscle car crowds.
The point? Who cares about a Mitsubishi (the friendly folks that brought you "Pearl Harbor") or Honda. A Pontiac or Chevy is a much cooler car... Even the Mustang is superior in both performance and "cool factor".

"Even the Mustang" MrPbody you make the Mustang sound like an inferior car.

Re: 94 5.0 or 92-96 prelude

Well, you get what you pay for...

In "olden times", when it was common to see MANY muscle cars running around looking for races, Mustangs were outselling the GM cars, just like today. And, just like today, they were more of a "pest" than a competitor. I can't tell you how many times a 289 4-speed Mustang wanted to bet money he (or she in at least two cases) could beat my "Pontiac" (said with a high level of condescension). Not once. No small block Ford-powered car EVER beat my GTO in a street race.
My brother and nephew are both deep into Mustangs. They have 5 between them, including a '65 "K" code, a '78 "King Cobra" (brother bought it new), a Bullitt, a '99 Cobra and an '88 4-cyl. car (very nice condition). They're pleasant cars to drive. The late models will STOMP the '65. But they're very "plastic". Not just literally, but figuratively as well. Road noise is high. Ride comfort is spotty. On rough roads, they're simply no fun. The same can be said for the 2nd generation F-bodies (Firebird/Camaro), but they at least had enough power to make them serious. No Mustang after '73 or before '88, will get out of its' own way... The '85-'87 models showed promise, and respond well to modifications.
Sorry dude. I have little respect for them. Perhaps, had they built ten times as many 428 or 429 cars as they did the small blocks (instead of the other way around), I MIGHT take them a bit more seriously.
The word "inferior" is subjective in this case. Inferior to what? GTO? Corvette? You bet. Nissan? Nope (except MAYBE a turbochared 350Z). Mitsubishi? Nope. Honda? Nope. Dodge Charger? Probably not. Subaru? Please...
