04 Cavalier starts but stalls after about seconds
Hey everyone, I just bought a 04 Cavalier from a local repo place. The car had no keys, but I had one made up for it and it gets me in the car, trunk and will turn the engine over and start the car but only for a few seconds before the car shuts off. Also whenever I open the doors, the headlights will flash and the horn will blow. I tried to turn that off by unlocking the door with the key (the same way I do on my old 91 Cadillac) but it does not work. Did these cars come with a security system of some sort or a chipped key that the dealer neglected to tell me about when the cut me a key? Do I need the keyless remote to shut the alarm off? Any help is greatly appreciated.

they should have a remote..if you dont unlock the security system your never going to be able to turn your car on...if you look on your dash when your doors closed you should see a little padlock that flashes every like 10 seconds...go to a dealer..give them your VIN and ask them to have a remote shipped in...or else they could also give you a replacement remote with different codes and reprogram the security system to go with that remote.

It has 66000 kilometers on it, over by 6000 on the bumper to bumper warrantee. How is it to reprogram the security system to the new remote?
