Purchase help....

Well i'm in the market for another 2nd gen. pgt and my current options are to go cheap with the car and build from there or buy something already built up. My question is would it be wise to buy a probe that has already had extensive modifications done to it, such as a turbo install or klze. Obviously it all depends on how well the modifications have been done and how the car is treated but i'd like to hear some opinions from others and what they would do. My budget to start with is about 5-6k and i have a decent bit of mechanical knowledge so building up my own would not be out of the question.

Re: Purchase help....

Speaking from experience you are almost always ahead to buy a car that has been modified already, at least from the cost stand point. It seems that when a modified car is sold, it fetches much less than what it cost to build. Of course, depending on what you want and what the car in question has had done to it, you might need to spend some time looking. I have seen highly modified cars that are works of art, while others I just shake my head at and wonder what kind of idiot would spend the time and money to end up with a car that looks worse than before he started. The 2gen GT in particular is a pretty car even stock.
