s13 vs. vw gti

yesterday i raced my friends vw golf gti, he has basically the same mods as me, exhaust, slammed, and intake. we launch from a stoplight, and in about 5 seconds, i cant even read his license plate. that thing is fuckin fast as hell. i still think my car is better cuz of the rear wheel drive, and its a 240, , but then again i want a gti cuz its faster with less mods. i have no cash, and cant even afford my car tho, so no gti for me. o well, just thought id mention this little story

Re: s13 vs. vw gti

I'm definately no expert, I don't even own a 240, but most automotive theory is same between cars so I say ask this:

In your signature you list a 3" exhaust. From what I've seen this is usually used for a turbo setup. You don't list a turbo. This large exhaust reduces your exhaust velocity killing your low end. If I had to guess that is why you lost.

I'm not flaming, just giving an opinion on your situation. Please correct me if I'm wrong on this too, I don't like talking about things I don't know and would rather be corrected then laughed at.

Ive seen a dyno graph on a guys N/A KA and he had a 3" exhaust and saw a 12 hp increase. So IMO thats not why he lost

Re: s13 vs. vw gti

Well, it was just theory anyway. I know there are cases where engines will lose power. On the 240SX, though, my statement was just a suggestion. Thanks for pointing that out.

Re: s13 vs. vw gti

GTI's are quick, it's turboed and lightweight so it can launch. A stock 240 cannot beat a stock GTI, simple as that. And that exhaust system isn't going to help much either against that 1.8T

Re: s13 vs. vw gti

Yes The 3" Is Bad For The Ka Down Low But Great Up Top. Yeah He Saw 12hp More But I'm Sure It Was Way Later In The Rpm Range Than Normal. The Wide Open Exhaust Kills All Backpressure Which Reduces Exhaust Velocity Which Slows The Car Down Because It Can't Effectivily Breathe Until The Motor Is In The Higher Rpm Range.

The 1.8t Is Untouchable By A 240 Until You Get Some F/i Under The Hood, This Is Because Of Their Lightweight, Short Gearing, Turbo Power, Weight Balance And Superior Drivetrain. The Downfall Of The Gti Is The Suspension, You Put That On A Road Course And You'll Be Out Powering It Around Almost Every Turn.

nope its been provena 3" exhaust makes more power even on a N/a 240sx.

maybe he lost because...........

he raced a 180hp turbo car with I/E on a FORCED INDUCTION CAR

versus a 155hp with I/E hmmmm whos going to win?

doesn't take a rocket scientist

Re: s13 vs. vw gti

Who Are You Saying No Too.... Me? If You Are I Said Yeah You Can Make More Power But With A Na It Moves The Powerband Later Slowing Down Acceleration Which Dampers Drag Performance.

not really for drag performance you want high hp up in the powerband, well you want to for anything except off road and towing stuff.

when your racing how long if at all are the RPm's below 3k LOL, when I race my throttle is down all the way, even when u shift gears the RPM's still stay up in the powerband if your on it. These are't v8's they aren't going to make extreme amounts of torque down low with any style setup.

Re: s13 vs. vw gti

Buddy If You Shift Right You Should Have Full Power The Whole Track. Just Remember 4th And 5th Gears See The Lowest Rpms When Racing.
