Should I, or Shouldn't I?

Well, ive had my V6 98, firebird for some time now and it has done me great. No problems, what so ever! Anyway, i've been giving some thought on the idea to sell her for a 93, 94-ish Trans Am. The reason for an older model is because here the insurance varies from newer models to older ones and as a college student, i don't have very deep pockets. So, to afford the insurance on a V8 it would have to be older. Not only that, but the fact that it is a V8. Nice sound, great speed and great looks! I know the look of my bird is beautiful, but a V8 would be a nice experience, now that im only young once! Just wondering if i could have any advice and or thoughts on your opinions. Thanks, sorry it was so long to read!

IMO, you need to be happy with what you're driving. Cars are a major financial involvement for most of us, so we don't have the ability to have numerous cars to choose from to drive each day. Not to mention that people typically spend a long time in a car each day commuting. I would think that you 'd want to be comfortable and happy where you spend a good time of your day.

If you want the T/A then get one. Just make sure you get a well kept car, not a beat up, worn out pos. The Lt1 will run for a long time, so this shouldn't be an issue.

Good luck!

I also hear that you can make the 94's look like the 98-02 by swapping the bumper, fenders, lights and hood. Just a thought

Well its really up to you, if what silver87ta said is true, then yea, if the car is in good shape, and was taken care of... Than what the hell... you could go with it.

I have a question for you, I'm trying to figure out myself which FB I should get, and seeing how you have the W68... Can you tell me how the car performs , the relability of it, basic maintance on the car, and the gas mileage?

It definetly needs an exhaust mod. I went with Magnaflow and well it sounds great!! The exhaust mod made the car perform a lot better. A lot of people under estimate the power in that little 3.8L!!! So far (touch wood) i've had no problems and it got 76000km on it, so in miles, thats about 47000. The guy i bought it from worked for GM, so he babied the car! As for basic maintenance, just oil changes and washing it twice a week!! The neighbors think im crazy!!! I'll be honest, it's a pig in traffic or city driving. Not as bad as a V8, but noticable to me. Although, it's great on the highway. I put $35.00 worth of gas in the tank the other week, and it lasted me two days!! However, im aware that the US prices are a litte different than the canadian ones. I get a lot of compliments!! It's really a sweet car!! Especially when the t-tops are off!!!

I would keep the 6, dude.. first since its been babied, and how well you treat it. Also when you go for a V8 its price is obviously higher than a V6 and even if it has some high miles it can be costly.

Right now, since you're in college and need all the money you can, depending on how the car was treated, problems can occur.. i'd wait till after college, because then you'll have some more freedom with your money, hell you should start saving and then buy one.. dont worry they'll still be around.
