Passive Alarm - Won't Shut Off (97 taurus LX)
After I lock the door to my 97 Ford Taurus LX and walk away the passive alarm will go off. I actually do not care about the alarm and am curious if anyone knows how to disconnect it.
I checked the fuse box; however, the alarm fuse is connection to the EEC ignition coil and radio so I do not want to remove it. When the alarm goes off my horn honks and lights flash repeaditly. I am not sure where the alarm module may be to disconnect it. ...This may also be related to a problem I had when the dome lights would randomly turn on while driving the car as if the door became adjar incidentally (though no actual door really adjar) Eventually I took the lights out as the problem persisted. A few years later I've had problems with this alarm. This may or may not be related as I am not sure how the whole system works as I cannot find the switch for the door adjar anywhere on the door. Please let me know if you can provide any guidance on how to deactivate the passive alarm as my neighbors might start throwing things at me soon. ![]() Thanks, Eric |

Re: Passive Alarm - Won't Shut Off (97 taurus LX)
I have a 97 Sable, door ajar problems and alarm would go off randomly. I fixed the door switches but the alarm kept going off. I bought it used and the dealer was really cool about it and said he would pay for an aftermarket alarm for me if i wanted one. I told him I'd be happy if he would pay to disconnect the alarm which is what I had done. The alarm shop either cut or grounded a wire and that's all it took. I was worried that the key fob wouldn't work but it's fine. Really don't know if the door ajar and alarm are related although I did suspect that. But after door ajar was not an issue anymore and the alarm kept going off..I just don't know.

Also, do you remember where the alarm was that the alarm shop grounded or disconnected for you. I would like to try and find it and disconnect it similiar to what worked for you. Thanks again for getting back to me! ~Eric |

Re: Passive Alarm - Won't Shut Off (97 taurus LX)
I didn't do the work, the dealer had it done, but the switches are attached to the interior door handles. The have wires going to them. I don't think they had to remove the door panels as they were done quickly. As for the alarm, that was also done by a shop. But I looked under the dash, straight behind the steering column and I could see a plastic module with a newer looking screw so I assume that's where they worked. My wife is driving the car but I will look for you tonite if i get a chance and report back. Sorry I can't supply the info this post....

Re: Re: Passive Alarm - Won't Shut Off (97 taurus LX)
Thanks agian for getting back to me. I will take a look at the door handles.
Also I will look under the dash. I'm assuming you are talking near the fuse panel area. Do you remember what color the plasic module was or how big it was. I am at work right now; however, I will take a look and see if I can find something similiar to what you are talking about below my dash. Thanks again, ~Eric |

Re: Passive Alarm - Won't Shut Off (97 taurus LX)
Hey taurusforus, I looked under there this evening. It's been over 2 yrs since I had it fixed, at this point I'm not sure what I saw back then. Best I can figure out I have a grayish plastic module near the center heater duct, many wires coming out. I can see a splice in one of them that does not look like a factory splice and it is grounded to the dash frame. The wire color is red/wht stripe. Please don't take this as gospel and go cutting wires based on this, I don't want to cause more headaches. The shop I went to only charged like 20 bucks to do it. It might be worth a phone call or two. I just called around local shops. Sorry i can't be more specific/certain. Quick story about my alarm problem; wintertime, i have no driveway, an't park in street when it snows so i park in my neighbors driveway. 2 am the damn things going off, i'm yanking on my boots when the phone rings "i think the car is going off". They still like me....

Re: Passive Alarm - Won't Shut Off (97 taurus LX)
Try spraying WD-40 into the door latches.
Spraying liberally around the latch on the door. Do a search as there are old posts that go into more detail. My problem is the dome light would stay on and the alarm wouldent set. also would stay on while driveing. |

Fixed!!!
O.k. here's the fix that worked.
1.) Look under the dash right of the sterring column. There is a gray box with 27 wires coming from it. 2.) Pull out connectors. There are two of they clamp in, there is a latch on the side that you need to sqeeze to release. My connectors were AMP brand 3.) at pin # 20 you will see a dark blue wire that controlls the horn when the alarm goes off. Cut the wire about an inch from the connector. Make sure to leave enough room incase you get the wrong one. 4.) at pin # 8 you will see a white/purple wire that controlls the headlamp system when the alarm goes off. Cut the wire about and inch from the connector. **Note the actual pin number is not shown instead there is a 1 and a 12 disaplyed. you will need to count to get to the correct pin. 5.) tape the wires and plug the connectors back in. 6.) Press panic button and notice nothing goes off. Horn still works/headlamps still work. |
