Angry 97 dodge stratus

I have a 97 dodge stratus, i bought it in Jan 2004. SInce i have gotten it, i have had spark plugs changed, 4 new tires, 2 new rear cylinders, ignition wiring fixed, oil pan being recoiled cause some past owner stripped it. New hinges for my driver side door cause it made this loud clicking noise because the hinge was broken, my door panel hooks repaired twice, a new driver side mirror because someone hit it off. 2 new front rotors and brake pads, both of those parts were so worn down, i shocked the mechanics. I had no pre warning of the severity of the damage done. THere is much more that i had to get fixed on my car since i bought it and it has only been 1 year and 6 months. Problems i presently have, oil is mysteriouisly leaking from my car and burning wholes in my bf's driveway. My rotating switch, the one with the picture of the car and the arrow telling me where the air is coming from. Well that switch is broken and i can't turn it. If someone can point out these problems and how to fix that would be great. Let me tell you, i am warning everyone never to buy this kind of car.

Re: 97 dodge stratus

Don't be too hard on an 8 year old car. Much of this stuff is normal? in a car this old. How many miles are on the odometer? The oil does not burn holes in the driveway, it just soaks into it, and there are cleaning products available for this. A mechanic will probably have to look for the oil leak. Do you trust the mechanic that you presently have?

ok

Ok i know i shouldnt be too hard on it, i guess i am more mad at the dealership for selling this car to me,i am presently up to 89,900 miles on it. So far it works ok, but then their are times it is just stupid. I had to change my rotors and brake pads and i didn't even know their was anything wrong, the only prob i had was that when i braked while creeping or for driving too long in my car, their was this rubbing sound. Other then that I had no prior notice of my car being this bad. How messed up is that? Do you have an idea of where the oil leak is coming from? and yes i trust my mechanic.

It sounds like you bought a car from someone who never maintained it and abused it a lot. My wife's grandparents are like that. They abused a Stratus until it fell apart and then said they would never buy one again. They got it going just enough to trade it for a used Hyundai, as if that is an improvement.

Re: Re: 97 dodge stratus

My problem is that I haven't really done damage to the car, its other people damaging my car, i had it only 4 months before someone side swiped it, a couple months later, someone did it again, and just this past summer someone broke my driver side mirror off. I got the mirror fixed, but everything else will cost more money, that i dont really want to put in it. Have u had a stratus before?

Re: 97 dodge stratus

The brakes should have been check more often. How long did you have the car, after you bought it at the dealership, did the brakes go bad? As for the oil leak, someone has to look at it, as it could be anything from valve cover gaskets,(cheap), to an engine seal,(not cheap). I don't have a Stratus, but my brother does, and I do some work on that. It's not a bad car. At 90,000 miles, a car is due for some maintenance.

how many miles did the car have when you first bought it? If it had let's say 80,000 miles when you bought it and it had the original brakes, that's pretty darn good service life from brakes. Like it was said before, an 8 year old car is going to have some weak spots, so be prepared for that.
