Painted the interior

Just wanted to say that I finally got around to painting my interior...The stock colors were black and tan. I still have a lot more to do, but i wanted to let you guys know that the Wal-Mart Dupli-color interior paint works extremely well. For about $4 a can it's definitely worth it if you have the patience to prep the parts. I'll have to get some pics in a little bit and post them. I want my interior to be black and silver eventually...Never really cared for tan. The black in the spray can matched almost perfect to the stock black. It's just the spray paint i used was a bit more flat. So what i did was clear coat it too. Turned out PERFECT. Here's basically what i did... Took out the parts to be painted. Cleaned them with goo gone really good. Took them over to the sink, washed them with soap and water. Dried them. Blew them off with the air compressor. Set them out. Sprayed 2 base coats and 2 clear coats. Let dry for a few hours, then brought them into the garage, then let them dry even more. Put the pieces back on, and was amazed. So i'm just letting all of you know that the cheapo Wal-Mart interior paint does wonders....By the way, this paint is also durable. I tried taking my fingernail and scratching the pieces. No paint chipped off anywhere.

Looks sick. Your ride is peep game. The black on silver looks good, and the gauges work well with it, I think. I can't believe you said you were going to get rid of that thing.

I want to paint my interior black, too, but I was worried that it would come out glossy. I'd like it to look a little more matted, like stock. Hope mine turns out as well as yours when I tackle that job.

Re: Painted the interior

it looks great on your car, but i had a totall different experience, iguess cause im not as patient as you. i removed my panels cleaned them with soap and water and a brillo pad. painted it white with blue accents around the handle, door air vent, and the little hand cup thing on the door.let them dry for about 30 min, they seemed dry at first, but im sure you know what happend when i picked them up..... i had a huge blue thumb print in the white coat... i had hell with the entire project, so if you are impatient like me LETSOME ONE ELSE DO THE WORK FOR YOu

Re: Painted the interior

Damn, good job! I spray painted my center console black, and it turned out terrible...it seems to attract an unusually high amount of dust, and looks terrible. I think I shouldve researched on what kind of spray to use first

Re: Painted the interior

Wow... I wish my interior was black instead of all gray... I tried dying the interior of my Firebird from tan to black and it didn't turn out so well... Did you prime the pieces before you painted them?

Re: Painted the interior

Its also good to prep the pieces with rubbing alcohol. It will remove all the oil residue left from your masty fingers, especially if you eat in you car!

But seriously, using rubbing alcohole is good, cause it dries pretty quick to.
ALSO when spraying never EVER NEVER stop the spray can...KEEP IT MOVING
OTHERWISE. A horrible finish! DONT learn the hard way!
