Ok, so I bought a 04' Gtp in August...

has 28k on it and I got the extended warranty(75k)...

I want to do a little bit to it(the stock tires have to go, found that out the 1st day) but want to keep my warranty intact(meaning a 3.25" pulley is out of the question)...

I know things like exhaust and the K&N aircharger won't void the warranty... What else? And will things like gutting the airbox void it as well?

Re: Ok, so I bought a 04' Gtp in August...

Pretty much what I am wanting to know is am I safe with things like headers(I should be since it is part of the exhaust), 180degree thermostat, etc...

I know I'm safe with exhaust(other than the exhaust becoming void) but I also know I can't touch anything internally, what bolt-ons are safe?

And which is better the K&N aircharger kit or the SLP Cold-air kit, or is there not much difference? I've seen that K&N claims 17fwhp and Slp says "up to 10" but are those K&N results just abnormal?

If there isn't much difference I'm going to go with Slp...

Whats going on there chief? I hate to burst you bubble but when you upgrade your car with performance parts it will void your warranty, but there is this law called the MAGNUSON MOSS WARRANTY ACT. Check this link out. Most dealerships will give you shit no matter what.

http://www.granatellimotorsports.com/magnusonmoss.htm

Headers upgrade will void your warranty, because its connected to the block. It also depends on how flexible you dealership is. Some will not touch your car if it has a cold air intake and some will fix it with down sized pulleys. I wouldnt reccomend just droopping pulley sizes like that. You need to completely open you exhaust along with a FWI or CAI. You need to scan your car for KR. Check this link out.

http://www.graffix.org/gtp/knockretard.zip

If you have anymore questions dont be afraid to ask. I dont like when GPs go BOOM. Learn as much as you can

Re: Ok, so I bought a 04' Gtp in August...

I'm not really that concerned about KR because I don't plan on doing A LOT to the Grand Prix... low-14/high-13s and I'll be happy...

What exhaust setup would you guys recommend? I'm not about to pay $500 for a Slp kit and barely be able to notice the difference...

what kind of piping would you all recommend? I've been raised around the V8 H-pipes and X-pipes so this whole V6 Gtp thing is kind of new to me... and I don't want to sound like something straight from the fast and the furios...

So no fart cannons, please

To be honest with you, will have to worry about KR no matter how much you mod. You will have to do quite a bit to get your car into the 13s.

IMO here's what your going to need. Go to zzperformance.com There a few other site but I like Zoomer over there. Go to PFYC.com for you intake. It will save you a few bucks

http://www.pfyc.com/store/merchant.m...y_Code=04UNDER

Then a 180* T-stat
You can get that from a car parts store

Then you going to want to customize your exhaust. The reason for this is because of the restrictions it has stock. Most places will weld you a Y pipe from the cat back. Go with 2.5 inches. If you dont want your car extremely loud go with magnaflow mufflers. Then you want to get a 3" down pipe for the car. Those can also be custom made a lot cheaper but your going to sacrifice the catylitic converter. I dont have one. I have my PCM custom tuned to where it by passes that for emissions. purposes. Make sure you take off you resonator on the exhaust as well

Next if your not scanning to high in the KR section you can drop a some pulley sizes. At this point you would go with either a 3.5" or 3.4". Under a 3.4 you might be stressing your fuel injectors. People go back and forth on this subject.

Then for the best result for the all of the above you would want to go with a DHP PCM. They customize the settings. Normally you will see gains of .2 -.4 10ths off your quarter mile just with the PCM. Gas mileage is a lot better than stock PCM as well.

I forgot to add that when you drop pulley sizes you need to get a smaller belt due to slipage. I used Good Year Gator Belt. I think its an awesome belt.

If you really want to get in the 13s get rid of the stock tires on the car. THEY SUCK. I have the Yokohama YK420s and I get 2.0 - 2.1 60 fts all day long.

If that doesnt work you need to hit up the 1.8 or 1.9 rockers, but you need to get new springs as well for those.

Any other questions just ask

Mike

Re: Ok, so I bought a 04' Gtp in August...

Thanks a lot...

I had thought a custom exhaust job would be a lot easier(and considering one of my good friend's dad run one, has been the favorite in the running all along)... But i am going to keep my CAT...

Here is a question, how easy does the Fenderwell Intake install and how easy is it to remove? The reason I ask is the dealership here can be wierd on warranty crap and if something were to ever go wrong I would want to pull it off, put the PCM back in its oringinal place, the fenderwell back on, and a normal filter...

Can you put it back original is what I'm asking... I know its going to get to the point to where I'm going to void my warranty but for a little while maybe I can keep it(they are leniant on exhaust at least as long as proper O2 sensors are used)...

You can put t all back to stock if you want to. You are going to have to bend a little metal to shove the tubing into you fenderwell, but when you put the stock box back in it wont ever be noticeable. Replacing with after market is easy once you do it a couple of times. If you dont know what you doing I say it takes betwenn 1-2 hours. Once you know what your doing its a breeze. Just make sure you pay attention when you take the pcm out. Sounds dumb, but take pictures if you have to. It will all go back together

Re: Ok, so I bought a 04' Gtp in August...

when i first bought my car i had an aftermarket warranty...when i asked the guy at the dealer if mods would void the warranty, he told me it would...i told him that certain products like K&N promise not to void warrantys...he told me if i put a K&n in , alone, it wouldnt void the warranty...he told me if i put in a few mods, that are warranty friendly, it would void the warranty...he stated the car has been modified beyond manufacturers specifications, and that it was not designed to handle this kind of HP or tourqe....i would suggest if you can...only put mods in that you can take out easily...the good thing is...if you need a repair, done under warranty...most dealers or mechanics wont "Rat you out"...the only problem is if they send an adjuster to the shop to verify the repair

Re: Ok, so I bought a 04' Gtp in August...

well i'm pretty close with the service/parts manager at our local chevy/ponti dealership, so I'm not too worried about it...

For instance one time my brother bought a Z28 at another Chevy dealership and about 8 months later the engine blew(he kept it stock, so that wasn't a problem)... When they pulled the numbers they noticed it was a junk yard engine(the #s didn't match)... So after a court battle he "won" a new engine... But he was like "I don't trust them to do the work" so they sent it to our local dealership...

The parts manager, I call him Mr. X, instead of ordering the typical Lt1 "accidentally"(since they were footing the bill) ordered a crate Lt4(found in the Grand Sport Corvettes of 96')...

So to make a long story short, my brother had the baddest "LT1" in the area, and this was around the time the LS1 debuted in the f-bodies... I still remember the 1st time we tied up with a LS1 SS Camaro, we pulled him by about a car...
