6.291 @ 109.600 mph....

...so it wasn't my car, but it was my uncle's '76 Vega with a 12.5:1 406 SBC, with Dart allum. heads with 2.05/1.6 valves and a .640/.640 lift Lunati roller cam. I took the weekend off (local track took the weekend off) and pit crewed for my uncle at Mountain Park Dragway in Clay City, KY this Saturday night. I say took the night off, but in reality, I just couldn't take my car yesturday, so I decided to pit crew for him.

Anyways, it was a big race, "King of the Bluegrass", and there were probably 150 cars in Top ET (which is Bracket 1). And that 6.291 @ 109.600 mph was the fastest pass his car made. It had a 1.37 60' and a 4.05 330 ET. Pretty good for a small block. That pass came in the 2nd round, and I dialed the car 6.29 and he cut a .018 light. He went out in the next round with a -.012 redlight foul however.

Fun weekend, and I'm hoping to get back down to Clay City in two weeks and take my car. However, if I don't get to take my car, then I'm probably going to drive his (low 6 second car in the 1/8th at nearly 110 mph...). And for reference, that same engine/trans./gear in my car could only muster a 1.46 60' and 4.26 330 ET (at the local track). So see, I'm not lyin when I say my car is a tank (for a racecar).

Good runs for your uncle. Isn't there a 1/4 mile track around you anywhere??? Drive 300 miles for one. I mean everyone on AF has been waiting to see what you'll run 1/4 mile wise. Sheesh.

Lol. This was a 1/4 mile track, but its Top ET bracket racing, lol. That class doesn't run the 1/4. The only thing that runs the 1/4 at any track that I could go to is the street class and motorcycle class.

His car would be a high 9 second car in the 1/4. The rule is 6.40 in an 1/8th is 9.90 in a 1/4.

Re: 6.291 @ 109.600 mph....

I'm gonna atleast get a time run with it the next time we go I think, if not drive it the entire night.

And my car will never hit those times. Its too heavy. I mean I'd have to either build a big block or buy about a 200 shot of NOS, lol-and neither is going to happen. Now what will happen is a new Jegster chassis (eventually), and that would help get the weight down.

You see, that same engine (excact engine, not similar, but the exact engine, with actually a better intake), with a Powerglide trans. and 5.13 gear (same setup he has) only could pull a 1.46 60' and 4.26 330 time in my car. He had a 1.37 60' and 4.05 330 time, with the exact powertrain (PG and 5.13 gear). So you see, there's atleast a 200 pound weight difference, atleast, probably more. So this little 355 I'm running now is pretty stout, but nobody would think its stout because its slow in my car, but nobody realizes how heavy my car is. My best 60' with this 355 is 1.61 and my best 330 time is 4.75. That would equal out to at best, 7.20 in the 1/8th (I'll find out shortly for sure though) at around 96 or 97 mph. Now that same engine in his car would probably pull mid 1.40 60's, and probably 4.30 330s, and 6.60 1/8ths at around 100 mph.

And too, his car has a cylinder that's not hitting good. One of the heads has a bad port, so when he gets that fixed, he'll pick up atleast a tenth in the 1/8th mile.

Well, both of our cars have a 7000 RPM high side chip, and his never hit it in high gear in the 1/8th. I dont think it even turned the shift light back on, and that's only 6500 rpms.

Now what would happen is it would eventually just quit pulling and flatten out. We run too much timing to run a 1/4 mile (distributor's have a mechanical advance, plus we set the timing on 40*). So, I'd say it'd pull strong to about 800-1000 ft, and then level off.

It is interesting though, becuase every other car there that night that ran in the 6.30s, only trapped at 107 mph. In fact, one car that ran 6.17 only trapped 107 mph. I think his car should have ran low 6.20s, if not 6.teens trappign at 109 mph like it did. But it does have one cylinder not hitting good, so maybe that explains it. I also know a half pound air pressure decrease slowed our mph down to 107 mph. Didn't effect the ET though, but made the car want to wonder a little on top end.
