1996 S-10 Charging/Cranking Problem
I have a 1996 S-10 with a 4.3. Recently I had my truck just cut off while driving. Found the battery dead and the Alternator not charging. Changed the battery and corrected the Atlernator, but now at times when I go to start the truck it cranks over but won't start until i hit the gas. The battery gauges shows a discharge and the engine stalls out. I can wait a couple of minutes and then restart it with no problems?

check the battery voltage when not running and when it is running.
Report back with your findings here.

Re: 1996 S-10 Charging/Cranking Problem
Voltage is 11.8 engine off and 13.8 engine running. I can start 3 or 4 times in a row before it starts acting up.

It should be between 12.6-13.4 volts. Remove the battery from the vehicle and charge it with an automotic battery charger and charge it completely.

Re: 1996 S-10 Charging/Cranking Problem
I went and recharged the battery like recommended. Voltage at the battery engine off was 12.2 and with engine running 14.3. However when I go to start the vehicle it turns slow or strained as if it has a large load or it's cold outside. After several more attempts it will just spin over until the gas pedal is pressed, but once you let off it is stalls out, if you feather it until the battery gauge starts to show a positive charge then it will stay running. Any other ideas?

Re: 1996 S-10 Charging/Cranking Problem
Almost sound like you have a dead short somewhere.
How did you fix the alternator, did you replace it?
