2000 Saturn SL2 rear door handle removal

I am trying to remove the door handle so I can pull of the door panel of my Saturn. I am having a heck of a time trying to pull the pin out underneath the door handle. Is there a trick? I basically tore up the pin underneath and still can't seem to get it out. I need to get in there to replace the little plastic pieces on the regulator..both of my back power windows are falling down...

punch the tiny center pin in, then the rest of the plastic rivet should come out easily

Thanks for that, we did try that but since we weren't sure if that was the right way to do it maybe we didn't push the center pin in hard enough. Really appreciate the feedback!!! Thanks,

Know I am stuck on trying to get the black plastic piece onto the ball that that is on the regulator. I have tried some pretty heavy duty pliers and even tried ice on the ball to shrink it but I simply can not seem to get these two pieces snapped together. Who would have thought it would be this difficult?? Maybe just for me...not mechanically inclined...thanks again,
