front brakes 93 lumina

im a novice how do i get the caliper off do i need to remove the star like bolt help

you don't need to remove the star bolt and bracket to get the caliper off, but you do if you are changing the rotors. The star bolt is a T-60 torx, and you better get some good penetrant like PB Blaster or Break-Away (WD-40 and Liquid Wrench are virtually useless) or you'll never get them out.

I agree with richtazz. Also what I use is a cheater pipe. The nice thing about the T-60 bolts is they're fairly strong so you don't have to worry too much about snapping the heads off. However DO use some sort of penetrating oil first just to be on the safe side. Another thing you can do is when you hit them with the P.oil, also give each one a few good raps with a hammer. That sometimes helps with breaking some of the rust loose, and thereby getting the oil in the threads that much faster, further.

The 60 torx bolts are for the caliper bkt, to remove the rotors, the caliper comes off with the smaller bolt to the caliper bkt.
