Unhappy 2001 GT Radio Problem

Have a 2001 GT w/CD/Equalizer (not Bose) radio & steering wheel controls. Worked fine till a week ago, now its pretty much useless. Symptoms:
- Volume knob / steering volume only has 2 settings - off and so loud that it produces nothing but distortion out of speakers.
- Equalizer sliders, if moved, produce extreme noise (like static) [equalizer, like rest of radio, has always worked fine]
- Balance and fader doesnt seem to produce desired effect either, although this may be since volume is so loud (or off!) that the ear cant well where sound is coming from.

This happens when playing radio or CD. It tunes to radio stations fine.

Any help, diagrams, would be great. THANX!

read my lips, GET NEW DECK. its cheaper to buy and install an aftermarket deck then it is the buy a OEM radio. I have a Pioneer deck and paid 170 for it from crutchfield and its still round 50-70 cheaper than an OEM. Plus, it has more wattage than a stock deck. so go aftermarket, best choice.

Re: 2001 GT Radio Problem

I was hoping that it was a non-radio problem...

Which Pioneer did you get? Does the backlighting match (mine is orange)? Any tips/links on getting the old one out?

It was the same problem with mine and I dont have the steering wheel controls. Also when i would turn the volume down it would go up instead.freaky.....heres a link to get your radio out

http://www.carstereohelp.com/stereor...andPrixSt2.htm

And here is the Pioneer deck I bought.

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-4m6Tb08...0&I=130DEHP470

Its kind of a blue black light but for me it was perfect cause im in process of changing my interior lights to blue. I would beleive most are blue bak lit. But even when i had stock speakers there was a big differencer over OEM, especially clarity. And now that I have Pioneer 6x9s, Pioneer 6x0s, and 2 12" Punch Stage 2 Subs with Fosgate 800 Watt Amp, the music is beautiful. If you are looking to upgrade later, this is a goo dplace to start. Even if you arent looking toi upgrade, the quality is as good as or exceeds OEM.

Re: 2001 GT Radio Problem

THANX.

Does your radio "stick out" an inch (as do all but about 2 on the crutchfield site)? If so, how does it look?

How do you change your dash light color... I currently have orange. Seems like a big job.

Re: 2001 GT Radio Problem

Pioneer makes two decks that fit the GM opening, the model #s are deh-p47dh and deh-p77dh, and will not stick out from the dash. I'm not sure if they are compatible with the steering controls, but they look nice in GM dashes because they don't stick out or require an ugly adaptor.
