96 sable transmission problems

My 96 sable transmission started slipping out of gear when comming to a stop. I would turn the car off and restart and everything would be fine. this happened intermittently for about six months. I started the car up a couple of days ago and would not go in reverse or drive. It would just creep. I shifted into 2nd and was able to take off and then shift into drive. Fluid is good and not burnt. Any suggestions would be great.

id get out now!

i am just now getting rid of my 93 sable.... i loved the car to death and thats what its about at..... both making me financially broke and the car is dying itself. its nickel and diming me to death. and the biggest part of that is the trasmission. if getting a 75 dollar tranny flush doesn't do the trick sell the car while you still can. a new transmission for that car will run you around 800 bucks if you install it yourself. if you pay someone to do it it will cost you about 2500 get out while you can still get some money for the car! my family has owned this car for about 11 years and 182,000 miles.... and it still runs... but its quickly on its way to a better place. i pick up my new car tomorrow afternoon... i'll miss the sable... but it has to go! good luck!

btw if you need any other help i worked on almost every single part of this car while i owned it so i can give you some tips if you need it.
