Oil Presure Light Flicker at idle

New to this forum but thought I would pass along some good info. Our 02 intrepid had a problem with the oil presure light flickering at idle. dealership checked and said we were crazy. Another mach. that we use checked oil pressure, and looked for sludge in the engine which is the great 2.7 ha ha no sludge. A fellow told me about a TSB for the 1st genaration intrepids that were having the same problem and dodge cured by adding a vent wire to the connector at the oil presure switch.. I went to dealership and bought one of these vent wires, the dealership said I was still crazy it would fit or work on my car. I installed vent wire took about 30 min. cured the problem instantly. So if anyone else is having this problem in the 2nd genaration intrepids and you have good pressure and no sludge try before you speed money at dealer.

Thanks for this posting. I have the same problem with my 2002 Intrepid SE and I checked the fluids and they look good. How difficult is it to add the vent wire to the connector at the oil pressure switch? Is this something I can do it or do I have to take it to the dealer? I am not sure where the connector is for the oil pressure switch. Is the vent wire to be brought from the dealer only or can I buy it from any auto store? Any help is greatly appreciated. Cash R.

Oil Presure switch PN is for year and make of your intrepid.
Vent wire pn is dealer item only pn 5017800AA about $26.00 our dealership didn't want to sell to me our intrepid it didn't fall into the TSB year model for the vent wire fix. They still dont want to admit there is a problem past 1999.
Raise front of car look under car on passanger side bottem side of engine you will see a switch in the side of the block with 1 wire. Slide the lock,( it is usually lite green) to the side pull off wire connector. replace oil pressure switch ( very little oil if any will come out) you will need a 1-1/16 deepwell socket for this. Switch is about $14.00 then take locking ring off of the wire connector, pull the litebrown plug out of the hole beside the wire in the connector, then push in the metal end of the vent wire til it stops. (it does'nt really plug into anything. The metal end just holds it inside the rubber). Run the remaining wire up toward the top of the engine compartment and tape with electrical tape in a few places to hold it there. Reconnect the connector locking ring then reconnect to the switch and your done. Hope this works as well for you as for us

No the dealer will not. Independent machanics will if you know them and tell them to follow the TSB for the 1998-1999 model 2.7 engines. Remember the big boys at Chrysler say this flickering light problem doesn't exist, go to this websight for the hole scoop on this and a whole lot more . http://www.dodgeintrepid.net/forums/...splay.php?f=18

My 2001 does the exact same thing. I have had it looked at a few times. One guy replced some plastic plug that "melts" after so long? Said it was causing the pressure problem. The light still flickers, my engine power still sucks, and I am still going through a ton of oil. (Of course, I do have 125K on her, and drive about 500 miles/wk.) Anyhow, will the dealership sell the vent wire to anybody? Or will I have to get a mechanic to order it for me?
