Looking for MPG figures on 97-99 Luminas
I'm considering buying a 1997-1999 Lumina, but was wondering what a realistic gas mileage figure I'd be getting. I looked it up on google and a couple of reviews say that I should expect 18 city and 27 highway.
Thanks, Bob |

well.... i am getting 23.5 mpg in the city...on my 3.1ls lumina with 210,000 miles on it.
but, to bring this car on this stage, i had to work a lot on cleaning the intake/egr and then checking all the vacuum lines and stuff. on top, i have put k&n filter for better breathing. now, i dont know what mpg you are gona get out of your car. Best Regards |

Thanks for the reply. I've been reading up on the EGR and intake issues elsewhere. I think that the cars are nice and safe; I see them for reasonable prices all over the place. 22-24 mpg would be an improvement over what I'm driving now.

Re: Looking for MPG figures on 97-99 Luminas
I'm finding, from owning now 2 Luminas ('90 &'97) that the Lumina seems to be the Impala of the 90's. Remember the Impala from about '70 to '78 or so? 40 million of 'em made, most of 'em running forever. Pretty much same thing I think with the Lumina. Far as gas mileage, with the 3.1 expect 21-22 in the city, 28-30 on hwy. That's here in the Delaware area so if you live in a hilly area, of course "Your mileage may vary".

Re: Looking for MPG figures on 97-99 Luminas
last time I checked out at the pump, I got just over 24.5 with mine, thats combination city and highway, mostly city. And its very good considering on the speed at which I drive the thing sometimes, I just cant lose to the hondas that pull up next to me, "beating a honda is like doing a fat chick, you dont brag about it" ha ha ha. I'm happy with my 24.5, its respectably for such a little powerhouse.

I have a '96 & a '98 both with the 3.1. The '96 gets about 24 around town and 31 on the highway. Haven't checked the '98 yet, overall I've been very pleased with the '96; only had the '98 a few weeks.

Thanks all for the input. I'm driving a car that gets a combined 16 mpg. On the road, I was getting maybe 19. A number like 24/30 is much better. I would save about $16 a week, so I can't justify buying a new car. I haven't heard too many terrible things about the Lumina overall.
Thanks, Bob |

My 97 3.1 get 24-26 mpg. Can't complain. Great ride - decent mileage.

Wife's 97 with 3.1 Lumina gets a combined milage of 25 mpg. Just installed new tires and plugs and taking a 1500 mile vacation next week. Will be keeping an eye on the milage.
