Sunfire/Cavalier Stereo
Not sure if this has been posted yet or not but here is what I have found when installing a new stereo.
As the late model Sunfire/Cavalier do not have the accessory wire in the dash for a new stereo install, I just wire a lead from the wiper fuse (12v) in the fuse box to the stereo for the ACC wire and all is well. Stereo even turns off with the car and on with just the wipers if you want. No air bag explosions, no car shutting itself off, etc. |

Re: Sunfire/Cavalier Stereo
I have installed my stereo the exact same way and for 10 months now I have had no problems. But by installing this way I have lost all my warning chimes because what GM has done is put a module inside the factory stereo to control these and have the audibles through the speakers. Now if anyone is really fussy about having their chimes, there is a module out there (part# GMRC01) which plugs into the factory harness, it has it's own speaker for the chimes and you can wire your aftermarket stereo to that without having to run the acc to the fuse box.

... so that stupid chiming from the door being open or the key in the ignition is coming through the stereo?!

That's odd. I was having insurance work done on my car a few years ago and they were replacing the head unit that got stolen. They must have used the factory harness completely because I still get that noise. Stupid GM dealerships.

Re: Sunfire/Cavalier Stereo
What year is your car? Cause the class II data bus is in the late model cars (2000 and up) which might be one reason why you still have chimes or second, the interface module was installed.

Does not having this module affect any other function of the car other then the door chimes. I was looking for a replacement deck for my 01 sunfire as the rear speakers have all of a sudden started working intermittently and the wiring tests fine. They told me I would have issues down the line with second gear in the car, also their may be problems with the airbags, this must be a line of BS please tell me it is?

Re: Sunfire/Cavalier Stereo
I have taken out the stock radio and have not put in anything to replace the factory data bus and I have had no problems at all. But if you want to replace it the aftermarket one out there is only about $70, I would suggest ordering one from an internet supplier as you local stereo shop will always rape you on the accesories.

Re: Sunfire/Cavalier Stereo
Ok thanks. I did buy the cheap harness without the data bus and so far no problems despite the guy at the store telling me I would have huge problems and have my car in the shop a few times a week.
