Unhappy HELP! Intense "thumping" while accelerating

I have 97 Subaru Legacy GT 2.5. I first noticed that while driving on the freeway, i would get vibration at 65-75 mph. So i had the wheels balanced....didnt help. At the same time, both of my front cv axles went bad, and clicked while driving straight, so i replaced those. Ever since then, I'll be driving along at 45mph steady and smooth, then I start getting an intense thumping out of nowhere from under my feet. It goes away if I let off the accelerator. Soon as i put my foot back on the gas, it thumps again. I'll coast for a few seconds, and it goes away for a couple of miles, then same thing all over again. What the hell is wrong with my car? Wheel bearings seem fine. Please HELP!!!!

Added 8/30/05 10:47am:

I will add that when i had it up on jack stands i check the ball joints, tie rods, etc. Everything seemed ok except for my drivers front wheel moved about 1/4" when i shook it right to left (implying bad tie rod) The tie rod is fine, but the movement is coming from the rack & pinion knuckle on that side. Is it possible that my wheel is just shimmying side to side because of this movement? This is an interminten thumping, its not constant, and it only happens while accelerating, not coasting. I will also add that when it is doing its thumping thing, if i hit a significant bump in the road (manhole, pothole, etc.) the thumping will stop for a bit.....Anyone with ideas...Please HELP.

This forum sucks

I just wanted to say that I fixed the problem, it was the inner tie-rods. They were allowing my wheels to shake and casuing the vibration. I must add though that THIS FORUM SUCKS! Every problem and every post was fixed before anyone ever gave me a response. WOW, those are the results I was looking for when posting (sarcasm). Well, according to your first post, you checked the tie rods, but then later you found the problem WAS the tie rods, so you can't have checked them too well could you?

Anyway, go soak your head.....

Re: Re: This forum sucks

Wow! Comes here for help and ends up calling us names for bring as ignorant of his problem as he was ,with bad information to boot( wasn't tie rods and then was). Did everyone stay glued to their computers this holiday weekend just to help this jerk out. Well! Why didn't you? Or do you/we have a life. I know I do. LOL. Yes timmytim? It's all about you. And how do you know all the other problems were fixed before you? Bad information from you once again. I think no information is better then bad/false information.
