1999 AWD Transmission
I have an intermittent problem with the transmission. Occasionally in slow traffic, when shifting, the Transmission seems to thump into gear as if high throttle is being applied.
The transmission has a relatively new coil pack. I'm thinking maybe a throttle position sensor or speed sensor, but the check engine light has not come on. Help! |

Re: 1999 AWD Transmission
do you have multiple drivers of this van? These transmissions are fully adaptive, meaning they adaptive their shift schedules to the driver(s). Maybe you take it easy and don't gun it in your van and let's say your brother has a lead foot. The transmission's control module is taking into consideration that you have multiple drivers and has a tendency to go back to the schedule of the last driver of the van. If you want to correct the problem, I suggest going to your local Chrysler dealership and letting them "flash" your TCM. What that will do is update the operating parameters of the van to where it doesn't always shift rough through the gears.

Funny thing is the problem started when I was going on vacation. The kids were getting to the end of their teather so I applied the lead foot with pleanty of overtaking, so the shift patterns went from the normal diving habbits of me and my wife to a bit more aggressive. I was also using the o/d cancel button a lot to get past people.
Is there any way of clearing the TCM without cgoing to Chrysler or the dreaded transmission shop? |

Re: 1999 AWD Transmission
you could just disconnect the battery for about 30 seconds then reconnect it. Only downside to that is that you'll erase your radio presets and if you have a radio activation code, it'll be erased. Has it cleared up the past few days or has it gotten progressively worse?

I was wondering if it may have something to do with the fact that the ABS light is on? |
