gas tank replacement

Not a fun job. I did it about 5 years ago and I'm afraid I either have a leaking gas line or another bad tank. What now!!!!
Would it be easier to take off the bed to replace the tank. I understand that it comes off quite easily. Help

Re: gas tank replacement

I have always taken the bed off to change the tank. I have a hoist, so I can do it myself. I also have made my bed tilt like a dump truck so I can get to the tank, brakes, exhaust, etc. from above ( I hate laying on my back trying to get at everything. It works great, I just hook it to the hoist and away I go.

When you get a tank or fix the old one ... coat the tank with rubberized asphalt undercoating from a spray can on the outside of the tank. I even went as far as getting some roll-on bedliner and put a thick layer on a used tank. Now the rust can't get to it and it should last a long time.
